I think this is fantastic. Great job. They must have a lot of downtime, so nice to see it used constructively.

He's got a lovely voice. All the changed lyrics are really irritating though.

I'd doubt it's your tax dollar. As a proud Canadian, I can say everyone here would say a dollar well spent.

Oh, you were making a statement rather than asking a question?

Fantastic. Creative. I'll be happy to fork over my tax dollars for more stuff like that.

    +1

However, I'm never sure about songs written specifically for other artists if they're actually considered as covers, because the term singer/songwriter exists for a reason.

How on earth (!) did this thread go political?

I was quite moved by the video. Great idea and performance. Pretty good voice too, albeit fragile.

Very easily, this place is mostly inhabited by over sensitive Americans who take umbrage at the slighest thing, real or imagined

But back to the subject, the thing is, I can't think of many Bowie covers at all.

There are some interesting covers in "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou", in Portuguese.

Chris Hadfield's version cover is awesome. The visuals do not hurt.

I thought that video was super cool!

Hadfield has been amazing all through his tour in space. I've watched several interviews with him and I find it mind boggling that the technology exists to do live video transmission from Space! He was part of Music Monday, an event that promotes the study of music in public schools (a subject that is quickly becoming extinct in the face of budget cuts). He led a nationwide simultaneous sing-a-long. I watched it live and it was very cool.

Slightly off topic, but Hadfield also dropped the puck at the Toronto Maple Leafs home opener....from space.

MMMhhh..; Space Oddity and Five years are my fave Bowie tracks, but I'm not convinced by either cover They're both OK, but nothing more.
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

Really liked the Five Years cover, thanks. That for me too is one of his best, and really like his live version on bootleg from Santa Monica Civic from the 70s, which has Trevor Bolder playing some fine bass as well. Did not realize Bolder was in Uriah Heep as well. Space Oddity cover is good, but I too am distracted by the change in lyrics. Still sounds like that guy is doing more than most while he is orbiting, and it has a great video.

You guys are missing the point of the Space Oddity cover. It's from the freakin' INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION! He's not a professional musician. He's a real live freakin' ASTRONAUT!

    Sheesh!

Yes, that is amazing! I get it. It's an iconic song, and he did it pretty well with a great video. I do get it.

I'll give the astronaut props because, well, he's an astronaut (I didn't realize those guys were still around), but like this version better
