Harryhausen and Herrmann- A fabulous combination. I was addicted to these movies when I was a kid...
Rest in peace, Ray.
We're trying to build a monument to show that we were here
It won't be visible through the air
And there won't be any shade to cool the monument to prove that we were here. - Gene Parsons, 1973
So dad-knew this day would be coming at some point. Grew up LOVING this guys creations, and still get a kick out of whatching all those films with his wonderful monster creations. He will be missed.
So, what's your favorite Harryhausen creature? Mine just might be the Centaur's from 7th Voyage of Sinbad, or possibly the Hydra from Jason and the Argonauts.
I was always particularly fond of the sword-weilding skeletons. But, all the characters are sooo cool.
i just watched Jason and the Argonauts last week - a really sad reminder on how much CGI sucks ass.
I had thought Ray had gone to that great movie theater in the sky long ago.
My favorite creature of his is also the one from 20 Million Miles to Earth. The giant bronze statue Talos from Jason and the Argonauts was pretty cool, too, espeically the metallic sound effects as he walked.

Looking forward to my day in court.
Sword fighting skeletons for me too. They seem so real and natural you scarcely question the lack of muscles or tendons. On a related note, the stop-motion animation in Flesh Gordon is a direct tribute to Ray.
... though it's within the realm of possibility that Ray would've considered the creation of a "Penisaurus" to be beneath his dignity.
Speaking of dinosaurs (imagined or real), I liked Ray's Tyrannosaurus in "The Valley of Gwangi;" an unprecedented mix of a Western and a monster movie. His Eohippus in that was cute too!
I saw where he passed, and I was always a fan of his. I think Mysterious Island was my favorite film by him, but enjoy just about them all.
