Not among guitar enthusiasts, but in the mainstream he's never mentioned. It's always Jimmy Page, Tony Iommi, and Ritchie Blackmore, and Jeff Beck.

He'll get mentioned more now, thanks to the new movie. (Remember Wayne's World?)

Iommi rarely got a mention, for years, before the reunion and the farewell, and the articles still made Ozzy the Center of the Universe.

Queen did it all, and they certainly did some music that was metal IMO. Just saw Marc Martel, who did the vocals for the movie, at Progtoberfest 2 weekends ago and he was amazing. Also pulled out the Queen Rocks Montreal DVD last week for a viewing. The band was at the top of their game for that one. I only got to see them live once, but it was an amazing show.

Queen II is a forerunner of metal music for sure.

    My metalhead friends dig Queen.

They were influential. They influenced Rob Halford. What's interesting about Queen is that they can play some raging, guitar rock, and then they give us Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon....... Brilliant.

This is Bandcamp's album of the day. Finishes with a cover of 21st Century Schizoid, if that helps...

    NP: Sacred Reich........
    Independent.

Groove thrash. Sorta Pantera-ish. Cool lead vocal. A nice change from high pitched wailing.

Listening to a proto-metal compilation on Youtube. Some heavy bands I never heard of. I've seen the name Flower Travellin' Band but didn't know they were so heavy, and Japanese. I thought they were a hippy, drippy band from the UK or San Francisco....

The Metal Church Live album is awesome. From The Dark era, released in the 90's I think.

I'm amazed at the depth, and breadth, of the influence of Judas Priest on 80s metal, British or American. Of the classic, heavy British groups from the 70s Priest really embraced Heavy Metal.
