    Happenings in Amsterdam?

I will be vacationing in A'dam April 27 to May 10, haven't really been able to find much in the way of concerts scheduled, would love to see something RIO-ish. Could theoretically hop a train for anything in the vicinity.

Any recommendations? Or is it flowers & windmills with the wife?

Don't know about RIO but De Boerderij in Zoetermeer does a lot of prog shows amongst others. The website's here (it's in Dutch but it's OK to navigate)

    http://www.cultuurpodiumboerderij.nl/

It's about 35 miles away from Amsterdam but the trains are excellent in the Netherlands.
What if the Hokey Cokey really IS what it's all about?

Don't know about RIO, but perhaps one of these venues has something that might interest you:

De Boerderij in Zoetermeer, not too far away from Amsterdam, schedules quite a lot of prog. Have a look here (only in Dutch, I'm afraid).
Or check out DPRP's Dutch & Belgian Gig Guide.

It'll certainly be the queen's abdication on the 30th. Amsterdam will be so deluged with people, you'll hardly be able to move

Sigh. Thanks guys. I'll just miss The Nits on one end and Chester Thompson on the other. No interest in Pendragon, and Hiromi (with Simon Phillips) doesn't look like it'd be worth the trip. Sigh.

PS - How do you pronounce the 'ij' combination anyway???

This is anything but a critic towards the NL, but this is definitely much more of a neo/symphonic prog land than an RIO/Zeuhl place
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

I guess we all have our tastes. I'd be there in a heartbeat!

Also, you can check Tilburg 013 (http://www.013.nl/english, with the trains in The Netherlands any intercity travel looks very easy) but it does not seem to offer anything of interest to you in period of time indicated.

Get out of the city on April 30 unless you are into pomp and circumstance. On the other hand this is quite a moment and would be interesting to have witnessed it.

Oh, and do go to the refurbished Rijksmuseum. From what I have seen of it it looks amazing.

I should say avoid it, if only for the Kings song.

Good to know appalling bad music is universal.

Yeah, we plan to celebrate Koningsdag from a distance, just watch the spectacle and marvel at all the orange.

Even a lot of Dutch seem to hate this song. The lyrics are terrible and I'm not going to translate them. They make 'We are the world' a masterpiece in comparison.
