I see, its a live album. It will be interesting to hear if they play the jammy sections not-for-note or if they cut loose with them.

You sure about that, Ian?
The song posted on Facebook is something I've never heard before.
Again, I have no idea how to post FB vids, but here's the post:
"It lives.
"The new album has been sent off for mixing.
"Very, very excited."
Sounds like a new studio album to me.
I want to dynamite your mind with love tonight.
I thought there was an earlier post about a live album.
A new studio effort is indeed very very exciting!
Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world.
The new one arrived and I've given it a listen.
Initial quick thoughts:
Fuzz deployed like a weapon.
Jam. Fuck yeah, guitar solos.
Flute!
Vox effects are rad.

Waiting...

I pre-ordered through Amazon. Haven't received a shipping notice yet.
Just got my Amazon pre-order in this evening. I just need to get some time with it, and let it settle in.
Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world.
It's a very good album! Possibly their best yet!

Wolf People -Ruins First impression review after a first listen...A bit heavier, and more overtly Psychedelic than Fain. Stylistically reminding of a more mature take on the Singles EP from 2008. Being a huge Folk fan/collector, I might rate Fain higher, but repeated listens could change that. This album is spectacular. "Kingfisher" is probably the best song they've ever done, but there are 2 or three tracks on this album that are close behind it.
Wolf People sound like they came out of the British Underground stew circa 1970-1973, and while doffing their collective caps to Psychedelia, Folk and Progressive Rock, they can't be well classified as adherents to any one of those genres. This is the Album Of The Year so far for me, (haven't heard Knifeworld's latest yet,) and they, along with Knifeworld, are probably my choices for best current artists in the world today. If you like guitar based music with a strong British early 70s Underground bent, miss this at your peril. It's a classic.
As I predicted, for me, this album labors under the shadow of Fain. I don't want it to, and perhaps someday it won't. Today, however, I'm still comparing it.
This article from PASTE does a good job putting the album in perspective. A worthy read.
I like it, plus it's still growing on me, and cheers to the group for not recording the same album over again. I wish I had better access to the lyrics. I preferred the "dryer" production of Steeple and Fain. This one is so "wet" with vocal processing, I really don't know what most of the songs are about. Even without the processing, their lyrics can tale some spins to figure out. Calling a continuation of the psych singles on Tidings is a good call. Are they more mature? Well heavier, darker, more Sabbath than Cream, if you get my meaning.
It's pretty balls-to-the-wall. They don't try to layer in too many musical ideas into one song, but they know enough to keep the songs short because of it. Nothing overstays its welcome. Most songs hit hard with a furious riff and then draw out again, then on to the next one. So it is a well crafted experience; they know what they are doing. I can't believe they all still have day jobs. There's no justice in that.

Okay, the album is breaking-through with me. I still think that the mid-range frequencies sound a bit more crowded than I would care for. However, I'm feeling the music now, you know when your body inadvertently moves along with the bass line, and each break, tempo change, and fill seems the natural thing that ought to be? Yeah, that's happening. So this tells me that I am finally at the point where I can appreciate Ruins on its own terms.
It's really good to have a new record from these guys.

For those who don't know, Wolf People are doing a short USA West Coast tour (Cali, Oregon, Washington, BC) in early August (2-8). Their site says more dates TBA, but we're coming up on it fast, so if they are going to announce more dates, they need to do it soon.

I LOVE this band. I saw them a few years ago in Philly at a little club on their first American tour and have been a huge fan ever since.

and the new album is great. I still think I like the previous album a hair more, if only because Hesperus is on there, and I just love that song past all reason.

Hey Lynette! I've been digging these guys too. I'm jealous you got to see them live. (The only time they have been within striking distance was the third day school was back in session, so completely impolitic for me to get it off. ) I played Fain almost every day the summer after it's release, "Hesperus" being my top track. I'm digging Ruins too, I just wish I could make out the lyrics a little better.
Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world.
Ruins might be a hair below Fain in my estimation too.
But it does have “Kingfisher” so ...

yeah their live show was good, if you get the chance to see them again. plus they all seem like really nice people.

Large Plants have an album coming out:

"Confusion Will Be My Epitaph"
The Large Plants album is out and has, somehow, already arrived here in North Carolina (I ordered it a week and a half ago!).
If Sharp had called this band Wolf People, I don't think anyone would notice. Large Plants continues in that vein. There are some rocky moments, some folky moments, some moments that feel ripped from the band Dark 'Round the Edges--you know, a typical Wolf People album.
Very recommended.
I asked on FB about a stateside release. I didn't get a reply, so I ordered from England. Maybe Wayside or someone will pick it up.

^ I wonder why this isn't on Bandcamp? I had no idea this was out, despite following them on Bandcamp.
^Yeah. I wondered the same thing, too. Maybe it has to do with the label, Ghost Box, leaving Bandcamp?
