Their early albums are fantastic. Anyone reading this and thinking "Those soft-rock schlockmeisters Poco? Have you lost it, Bill?" have to hear the early stuff.
oh yeah, i was a huge fan of a number of those bands (Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Bros, etc) and the later offshoots. they were definitely rock at that time. they put out some great records. Poco, in particular, i really loved. Loggins and Messina just seemed the next logical step for Messina, imho. very cool stuff.

I agree. It wasn't until their ninth record (Head Over Heels) that pop overtook country rock, and even that was a good album. Nine very good albums in a row is a hell of a fine run for any band. Rusty Young and Paul Cotton made some great guitar noise. They always had that "too rock for country, too country for rock" burden to carry, but their vocals always sounded great. Modern Nashville artists are now trying to bring more rock into their country sound, but none of them hold a candle to early Poco.

Level 42 - most of their albums feature both Mark King and Mike Lindrup on each song

It would be a lot easier to attempt a comprehensive list of major classic prog bands who don't / didn't have more than one lead singer - there's ELP, Egg, Tull, Greenslade, UK - but after that I'm struggling !

    I don't think we've mentioned BLACKFIELD yet.

This also intrigues me, because apparently Aviv Geffen is a huge pop star in Israel. His voice isn't that great though, and Blackfield wisely chose to have Steven Wilson sing many of the songs, even many of those written by Aviv (and some previously recorded on his solo albums in Israeli).

Now that Wilson isn't doing as much with Blackfield, reportedly the new Blackfield IV album (coming out this spring) has many other lead vocalists guesting on it, too, though I'm assuming the songwriting is all done by Aviv. That album probably won't be a winner for those of you who had albums with more than one singer!
