The Winery Dogs (Portnoy, Sheehan, Kotzen)

The name and debut album information was just shared earlier this morning. This is the new project with Mike Portnoy, Billy Sheehan and Ritchie Kotzen that is supposed to be heavily influenced by Classic Hard Rock in the tradition of bands like Led Zeppelin, Cream, Deep Purple and some others.

The debut album is expected in May sometime according to that link.

I predict this will be competent, but boring.

This is project that originally was going to involve John Sykes (Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake) but he bailed out.

I don't think it was so much that Sykes "bailed out" as he just didn't seem interested in actually doing anything. Evidently, he has a bit of a reputation as being rather lazy.

Cool, they're definitely due for a covers album after what...one album?

I just thought that John got tired of waiting for Portnoy, since Mike has many projects on his plate.

FWIW, the VH, Heart, and LZ covers aren't bad. I just listened to the camples on Amazon.

With any luck the cover of Break on Through will be really, really long.
