I picked up "Playing Changes," and I recommend it to anyone interested in jazz over the last three decades or so. It does much to put the whole "Classic Jazz Vs. Downtown" perceived dichotomy into a healthy perspective.
More later, when I finish it....

Finished "Playing Changes." He deals with the European, and more deeply with Chinese, scene in the penultimate chapter. He also comments on Nicholson's book, with some interesting observations.

All in all, a thoughtful and interesting look at the current jazz scene.

A good word for Jonathan Finlayson’s latest, which has been pushing all the right buttons for me lately.

    Diggin’ from Get the Blessing:

    - Astronautilus (2015):

    - Bristopia (2018):

“With an unclassifiable sound alike the grandchild of the Canterbury scene, melancholic trip hop and krautrock, quirky Bristolian quartet GTB's latest album 'Lope and Antilope' marks a more mature, exploratory sound that is so much more what the media have branded ‘punk jazz'.”

Lookslike a Gonwana label (based vin Manchester) invasion of London

BTW, the Flemish band Stuff is really completely out there , but that's not meant in a good way... they can be excellent on some projects, but totally repellant on others... They fucked up (IMHO) Marc Moulin's 10 years tribute in the second half of the show last w-e.
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

    Christian Vander TRIO
Le Triton live 2 hours, 18 hours ago
    https://www.facebook.com/le.triton/v...9403399605898/

C'est bel et bien le trio légendaire de Christian Vander, avec Emmanuel Borghi et Philippe Dardelle, qui se recompose et qui est de retour en live au Triton.

So apparently Vander and Borghi are okay again...
