Marshall Allen presents Sun Ra And His Arkestra: In The Orbit Of Ra (2014).
    Sun Ra.jpg

    Bandcamp:
    https://sunrastrut.bandcamp.com/albu...he-orbit-of-ra

"Arkestra bandleader Marshall Allen cuts through the sea of Sun Ra reissues to bring you a brilliantly curated introduction to the cosmic jazz master, celebrating what would have been his 100th earth year. A sumptuous collection of classics, rarities and unreleased tracks and versions."

Great music/tunes selections; it isn´t "a greatest hits record" ... is an essential intro to any novice like me with Sun Ra. (I only have 5-6 Sun Ra´s records)

    Pura Vida!.

There are two kinds of music. Good music, and the other kind. ∞

Lost Betty Davis sessions with Miles Davis released by Light In The Attic

    http://www.factmag.com/2016/06/28/lo...-in-the-attic/

The Columbia Years 1968-1969 features jazz legends including Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin and more.

Light In The Attic will follow their reissues of Betty Davis’ albums with the newly unearthed Columbia Years 1968-1969, a compilation which features never-before-heard collaborations with her then-husband Miles Davis.

The release notably features a pair of 1969 sessions at Columbia’s 52nd Street Studios on May 14 and 20 produced by Miles Davis and Teo Macero. Featuring Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, John McLaughlin, Jimi Hendrix’s drummer Mitch Mitchell and more, they mark some of the musicians’ first experimentations with psychedelic fusion. The recordings include unreleased covers of Cream and Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Apparently this is the most famous jazz album in Sweden. Recorded in 1964. Beautiful stuff!

From the excellent Creative Sources Records label(Portugal) comes a sax-double bass- drums trio cd that's a keeper for me.Phantom Trio-#00 is the title. What sets this record above other horn trio cd's i've sampled lately is the subtle, hip use of electronics by the sax player.

I don't find that much of interest in most of the saxophone trios i hear.In fact, for the most part, i try to avoid these records;it just seems i've heard it all before, in abundance.Of course, there are some exceptions, for me, they're mostly older reissues and archival releases(Mike Osborne,John Carter,a few others).

    Phantom Trio makes the grade.

Shameless self-promotion time folks. Here are a few tracks with my jazz quartet. We play about once or twice per month in the Hudson Valley region.

Gerry Mulligan is old school jazz more squeaky bam jazz as Bill Bruford calls that kind of moozik but he is still very unique, his tunes.

Well, saw last night Kamasi Washington and Ibrahim Maalouf in the final doubeheader of Gent's jazz Festival's opening day

Kamasi & co were roughly disappointing (I stll loved it, but expected somehow more)... Their concert is a little too much like The Epic, raking fairly wide (well this is wide-raking festival audience) and not giving enough space to their more energetic stuff present on the album... Too much space was given to the sung songs, and wau-y too much devoted time spent on the boring drumm duel duet... Personally, I preferred the non-album tyrack (written by Ryan Porter for his own upcoming album-

Maalouf was much more energetic and communicative (despite addressing the crowd in french, whigh is always delicate in Flanders), he was touring his Kalthoum band (with US/Bel/Fr members) instead of his rockier (Belgian) R&B Light band. He took his sweet time to explain who was Oum Kalthoum and how important she was to Arabs, then invited to Syrian oud player to sing the original song that Maalouf expanded into an album. A lot of emotions throughout the 110 mins show

I was originally planning to go back to Gent saturday (John Cale and Mat Halsall) and sunday ( Flat Earth Socety & a Tribute to Moondog) but Billy Cobbham, Didier Lockwood and Pihilipp Catherine will appear in the free Brosella Festival in Brussels this sunday
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
