RICK WAKEMAN headlines GOUVEIA ART ROCK 2013 in Portugal
The legendary RICK WAKEMAN has just been announced by the Gouveia Art Rock organization as its tenth anniversary edition headliner.
This is what the official press release said:
"This time without a vast arsenal of keyboards, a rock band or an orchestra and choir, Rick Wakeman has prepared a very special and intimate programme for Gouveia, performing on the acoustic piano.
In his show, Wakeman will take the audience through some of his classics, recorded in the course of his vast solo career and with Yes, as well as other classics written by classical and popular composers that he admires. The pieces will be performed with Wakeman’s legendary technique, virtuosity and versatility, natural for an artist who has lived on the closest of terms with this unique instrument all his life.
This intimacy between the musician and the piano will also extend to the audience, as Wakeman is going to reveal a different facet as well during the recital using his skills as a teller of stories around musicians and music, proffered with his unique and contagious sense of humour."
So are you in for a Journey to the Centre of Portugal?
The complete lineup also includes other stellar participations such as Gouveia's premiere of ARTI & MESTIERI and the fabulous comeback of THE ENID, hopefully traveling this time without the shadow of vulcanic ash clouds over European skies...
This year's festival big picture will look like this:
RICK WAKEMAN (UK) - sunday headliner
THE ENID (UK) - saturday headliner
ARTI & MESTIERI (Italy) - sunday second headliner
plus... in no other order than alphabetical...
FIVE-STOREY ENSEMBLE (Belarus) - the project that continued the amazing avantgarde works of RATIONAL DIET
HUMBLE GRUMBLE (Belgium/international) - one of the most unpredictable projects of today's progressive realm, following on the footsteps of great Zappa
MOON SAFARI (Sweden) - progressive, symphonic, colourful and subtle music from one of fastest growing progrock recent projects
MUSICA NUDA (Italy) - how far complexity and improvisation can create a fine blend between pure jazz and progressive music
TRABALHADORES DO COMÉRCIO (Portugal) - rock with a twist, revisiting the music of their late 70s progressive ancestors ARTE & OFÍCIO
