    RIP Conductor Wolfgang Sawallisch

The once music director and conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra has died at the age of 89. One of my favorite conductors of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Philadelphia was blessed with two long running outstanding conductors, Leopold Stokowski and Eugene Ormandy, and Sawallisch will always be remembered as one of the best. RIP Maestro!

I agree. A great conductor of the German repertoire. I only saw him once in Munich in 84 where he conducted a tremendous Meistersinger at the Bavarian State Opera. He will be greatly missed.

I was never a fan of his Wagner, which I thought was a bit anonymousd, but the recording he made of Capriccio with Schwarzkopf et al is delightful.

Does it matter that this waste of time is what makes a life for you?
