    New music from Alan Parsons

    From his forthcoming new album.

Of the collaboration with Mraz, Alan says, “I met Jason two years ago through a neighbor who grows coffee on his ranch. Jason wanted to grow coffee himself and our neighbor, Jay was kind enough to introduce us since we had mutual musical interests. For 'Miracle’, Jason recorded his vocals in Dallas while I listened in Santa Barbara and we sent files back and forth, resulting in this song. Thus proving that you don't necessarily have to be in the same studio with someone to create music. This was also the case with Lou Gramm on the track "Sometimes", which he sang in New York.

I know the name Jason Mraz but don't know where from. If that's him singing, he sounds like the guy from Ghost.

Yeah, this is pretty much what I was thinking as well. Too bad - I hope he doesn't play this on Friday.

Wow, I guess the theme of this album is a different vocalist on every song!

Who does vocals on Parsons' recent shows? Is it just Parsons himself?

A couple of years ago, the Project was touring and released an excellent concert DVD and CD.... I highly recommend this! Looks like all or most of that band isn’t on the new release. But Alan Parsons released many CD’s after the project and there were many different lead singers on them. I actually like those better than many of the Project releases. I’m looking forward to this new one; first new release from him in years....

That single makes The Cutting Crew sound like Metallica.

Try Anything Once (1993) - outstanding
On Air (1996) - not as consistent but very good
The Time Machine (1999) - it slowly grew on me and is also very good
    A Valid Path (2004) - ? just heard parts

Here's my problem - I haven't heard any of these albums (although I do have copies of the first two somewhere. The Time Machine I've never even heard of. My baggage, I know. I haven't looked at setlists, but I'm hoping for a show Friday that focuses on pre-Try Anything Once albums. Contrary to the title of that album.

But what's the deal exactly - are the albums no longer released as albums by the Alan Parsons Project, and just as Alan Parsons albums? Not sure I get what the difference is.

That's typical of Parsons' "solo" output as well as the Project.

Alan Parsons Project = Alan Parsons + Eric Woolfson
Woolfson is gone, so now everything is under Alan Parsons' own name.

The Project went away when Eric Woolfson passed away, though he and Parsons had gone their separate ways years earlier.

I don't know their exact agreement, but the APP was basically Parsons and Woolfson, and a pretty consistent band around them, with varying vocalists, depending upon the song and album. But even some vocalists appeared on several different albums. Parsons dropped the "Project" moniker when he and Woolfson separated.

You are correct: except for the recent live recordings there have been no Project releases in many years....Your show on Friday should be full of Alan Parsons Project though...... I saw them a couple of years ago, and it was a great concert! Enjoy!

As I recalled it, the "classic" APP albums had only a few vocalists per album, while this new one has, as it looks, a different vocalist for almost every song. But maybe that's how it's been since Parsons and Woolfson "separated."

Shows you haven't heard much APP albums to begin with cause this fits in with pretty much everything from the classic era. Just listen to the Eye In The Sky album or Turn Of A Friendly Card.

I like the song but am not enamoured with the production of it. I hope it is due to Youtube compression but it just doesn't breathe in the same way the original APP songs do.

Absolutely everything the 'progressive rock' concept was all about - in a nutshell.

(While Snarky Puppy kinda don't belong here)

"[...] things that we never dreamed of doing in Crimson or in any band that I've been in," - Tony Levin speaking of SGM
