Brandi Carlisle

I was really impressed with her on the Grammy's tonight, but am not familiar with any of her stuff. I listened to a few tunes on Youtube and dug everything I heard. Any fans out there, and if so, what album should I check out first?

A talented musician that has been around for quite some time, glad to see she is getting some recognition, I got into her with this song

Its off her first album but most fans prefer her second and third albums, The Story and Give up the Ghost, though her last album seems to top both of them in terms of popularity.

I only have The Story by her. I can't compare it to her other albums, because I haven't heard those. I don't think it would be a bad place to start, but then again I haven't listened to it in ages.

According to my wife she could be the next EmmyLou Harris.
I have seen her name around but her grammy performance was the first I have heard.

I like a number of alt-country singer/songwriters. Enough to buy their catalogs and see them when they come to town.
After that short exposure I would have to be a lot more excited before I started following Ms. Carlisle.

One peculiarity: "Brandi Carlisle" is effectively three people: Brandi herself, and the Hanseroth twins - the two bald, skinny guys who play lead guitar and bass live, almost anything on record, and probably have as much to do with the songwriting as she does. They live within two or miles of each other, and are now indeed relatives (one of the brothers is married to Brandi's sister).

I'm a fan. There's musicianship, interesting vocal quality, and quality songwriting. I haven't had the pleasure yet, but I've been told the live shows are excellent as well.

Although she considers herself a country singer, this tune is far more a classic pop ballad, with huge music, huge lyrics, huge emotions, and a huge vocal performance. It's the sort of "big song" that Broadway was made for, that Vegas shows were built on, that occasionally finds its way onto the radio, and that movie directors love and often gets the Oscar (if not the Grammy) for Best Song. And if the string arrangement impresses you, don't be surprised - it may not sound exactly like his work for Elton John, but it was one of Paul Buckmaster's last scores.

That is the song she performed on the Grammys. I ordered one of her albums to check out.
