people already pointed to the old brazilian prog tread, where you can find some nice tips

also, besides Laser's Edge sale, I would check Wayside Music catalogue. Along the years, they have colected a lot of brazilian CDs and some of them are imposssible to find in Brazil, but they still have some spare copies there.......

^ Very true. I found a lot of goodies at Steve F.'s house, especially in the Hermeto legacy.

I got Gismonti's Academia De Dancas on secondhand vinyl fairly cheaply here in Oslo a few months back, and that thing is a total monster.

^This is one of his really, really great albums. Are you familiar with his following album, Corações Futuristas? It's in the ssme vein and even better IMO.

That said, my favorite Gismonti today is possibly Em Família, although it is very hard to pin down a single one as its absolute best - there are simply too many great albums by him.

    Hello Alberto,
Yes it is: lot of good music by Gismonti; I tend to come back again and again to "Danca Das Cabecas" (ECM, 1977) ... !

    Regards!.

One of the crown jewels of my 400 or so Lp's. For a lover of prog/modern classical/jazz influenced music, it is a must!

This thread was started to point out some great Brazilian albums that were released in the last 2-3 years, albums that seem to have flown under the radar, as no one mentioned any of those bands (I did a search before I posted the info)!

I just noticed they had another album out last year that I didn't know about. I will be checking it out.

Yes. There were good releases by Mar Assombardo, Parafernalia, Caravela Escarlate and Montauk that I heard.

The Parafernalia in particular is a gem for those into an imagined synthesis of "symphonic" and stoner rock. Very, very solid.

Another terrifyingly good thread. I like everything I hear.

Despite not being too fond with retro prog, that Arcpelago shite is so good that I am listening 2nd time in a row, and that in a day when Lost Crowns released their gem and I shouldn't be listening to anything else.

Thanks to Zalmoxe for starting this, thanks to TCC to some excellent suggestions.

according to discogs they have 4 albums and a collaboration album
Quebra-Cabeça was a 2018 album... I'll be getting that one
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

This band's been around for a while and they have many albums out, but I was really impressed with their last one, "Spaces" from 2016.

Yes...there was some great stuff in that thread.

    I'll distill my contribution:

    >Mahtrak is insanely good stuff (and our own Pmrviana is a big part of the band...he also has a solo album coming out)

    >ZIL is wonderful.
