Actually, there are several good rockers on Endless Wire, but it's almost as badly produced for that as Face Dances.

One last rock album would indeed be preferable. Endless Wire should really have been called Fragments after its first track, because that's really what it was. And Townshend's Tom Waits-style vocal on 'In The Ether' (not a bad song) should have been canned, I burst out laughing when I first heard it.

I think Townshend has tired of the nostalgia-only treadmill they've been on for so long. And yes I've never been too impressed with the live stuff I've seen/heard post-Entwistle.
The Quadrophenia Live in London CD/DVD was really good. I think that's the best live post-Entwistle release they've done.

That was a great tour. Sure, it's not the same as it once was. But it's still nice to see the guy that wrote all the songs play them and see the guy that sang most of them do just that.

Indeed. I particularly like "Mirror Door" (and wish "Sound Round" would be a bit longer).

I was very underwhelmed by "Endless Wire" as it was an album I was really looking forward to. I gave it multiple listens, but it never grew on me.

I just noticed that the new tour's first gig is 45 minutes from where I live. I just saw them last summer at the same venue.
