Thread: NEARFest 20th Anniversary

Banco played ProgFest in 2000 first. Kenso and Transatlantic were also there. If I remember right, Rob was at this one. He was impressed by Banco and Kenso (as were we all)!

And Mona Lisa & Supersister. Rob was definitely there. I remember well the night of the Omni-Strauss entrance music! (inside joke)

Will they have divided into two competing camps for the 50th anniversary?

If I'm alive at 104 a highlight of the anniversary festival could be, instead of assembling for a group photo, we can all assemble to build a funeral pyre, stick me on it & find a raft & a lake to send me to Jewish Valhalla.

Me either, but I'm sure it involves a Speedo.

I really appreciated the chance to relive the memories in these past 10 pages. I was fortunate to have attended every NEARfest and regularly look back with fondness - wishing for another run.

Thanks to Rob Chad and Kevin for their efforts to put on the festival of festivals.

I recently framed my NEARfest programs in the billiards and Keith Emerson homage wing of the mancave. Will try to edit in a picture

That's awesome! Can you take closer shots of some of the frames?

Actually, Banco first played in 2001, I was there. But I wasn't at 2000, because I didn't know it even existed. TA were 1999 (first NF) and Kenso were 2005 (I was at that one as well). Both were fantastic!

    Let's get you straightened out...

    • Banco played at ProgFest 2000, NEARfest 2001 and NEARfest X (2008)
    • The first NEARfest was in 1999
    • Transatlantic played at NEARfest 2000 (the second NEARfest)

I don’t think I want to be in a “room full of solidly-erect” patrons.

First and foremost, a huge thank you to Rob, Chad, and all the staff along the way. You created an amazing festival for the fans year after year, of which we are all grateful.

Memories, there are many. I missed the 1st, but attended 8 overall. Great vibe, Zoellner Arts Center on the Lehigh campus was perfect. I didn’t mind the switch to Trenton, but Lehigh was definitely “home”.

    Memories & Highlights
    1. A weekend immersed in my favorite music, who could ask for more?
    2. Saturday morning online, in hopes that I would get tickets the day they went on sale.
    3. The announcements made over the course of the year as the acts were confirmed. Those generated much excitement.
    4. Spending lots of money at the vendor tables based on the new discoveries of that weekend.
    5. Meeting other fans, and the overwhelming friendliness of everyone
    6. Tailgating in the parking garage.
    7. Getting to meet, chat, and get autographs from many of the bands/artists. Standouts: Gary Green was such a great guy, had a long talk with him, and he was awesome. Mike Keneally, and echolyn who were signing copies of “Mei”. So many others....
    8. The road trip with my buds every year.

    Favorites and Surprises:
    1. Bands I thought I’d never see: Happy The Man, Camel, UK, Transatlantic, Anglagard, Wobbler, KBB, PFM, Banco
    2. Bands I became a fan of because of NF: Miriodir (stunning), Birdsongs of the Mesozoic, Hadrian Spacefolk, Morglbl and many others.
    3. I rarely left or skipped a performance. Even if not my cup of tea, tried to keep an open mind

A special thank you to Rob LaDuca who offered me a ticket to NF Apocolypse after seeing a post that I was looking for a ticket. I owe him a big thank you for that.

I kinda figured it'd have something to do with a schvitz, or maybe a good NYC style deli that never closes or something.
