Need Your Musical Expertise with Mystery Song.

A recently discovered cassette of a dance able mix from the early to mid 80's. It is obviously in my vinyl collection, however, I have been unable to put a name to this tune. All my friends, including my son, who is an 80's child and all the usual on line available technology, Shazam...lyric search etc. have been so far, unable to identify this very familiar ( to me) sounding tune. I'm looking for help!

BTW, I found it by Googling this: lyrics containing "outside that door you're on your own". I searched for lyrics containing "head over heels" but got too many hits. Searching for a unique phrase usually works better. Also, Google seems to work better than lyrics.com.

Thank you! Thank you! I knew that I would get my answer on PE. Now...I'm curious, did you know it without researching it? As I said, I checked Utube Head over Heels and got zero. I have now dug it out and it is a mini-lp with a single and double mix of Head over Heels.

My first guess would have been an obscure INXS cover.

Not to be taken literally. I'm just messing with Jed a little.

    Good work!

Funny to see the album this comes from was released on CD this year (in Venezuela).

According to Discogs there's a Japan-connection: Robert Dean was the original guitar-player of that band.
A few years after Illustrated Man he formed the band The Slow Club.
Producer John Punter also worked on albums from Japan.

Yeah, I'm not sure I linked to the right version. There are apparently several releases of this tune, and I grabbed the first one I found (which was a re-mix). But it accomplished the purpose -- identify the band and song!

Coincidentally I just read the last chapter of Anthony Reynolds' "Cries And Whispers 1983-1991", which is in fact an afterword, containing a long piece on Rob(ert) Dean. The story behind the band Illustrated Man is told with a lot of details. Funny to read Dean was involved in the early work of Sinéad O'Connor.

wow! As soon as I heard that guitar I thought of John Punter immediately! It was very cool to see your post confirming it was actually him. Quite a guy with a stellar CV
