    Iamthemorning - Ocean Sounds

One of the Kscope label's more esoteric acts, Iamthemorning have been described as "chamber progressive rock".

If you like classically influenced piano, or your taste in singers includes Kate Bush, then this duo from St Petersburg might be worth trying out. (Danny Cavanagh from Anathema was impressed enough to get them signed to Kscope.)

They've just released an interesting and intimate "live in the studio" collection on cd/bluray titled Ocean Sounds, and you can read my thoughts in my latest blog post here:

Hope some of you enjoy discovering them.

I have one of their studio albums and really like it. I will have to check this out.

I have been a fan for a few years now, the Lighthouse album is simply superb. I enjoy Ocean sounds but have to say it doesn't really warrant more than one or two plays at the most because it doesn't really add much to the pre existing material. Looking forward to their next album. (My Blu Ray is fine by the way.)

The concept of "chamber (progressive) rock" has already existed actively for 40 years and has usually been applied to artists radically different from what's suggested here. There are literally dozens of threads on this subject in the PE Archives, thematically and on individual artists, bands and ensembles.

Presumably Danny Cavanaugh from Anathema (who was impressed enough to get Iamthemorning signed to Kscope) feature among those not quite aware of the 40-year history of "chamber progressive rock", or that he simply was never sufficiently impressed by Art Zoyd, Univers Zero or ca. 137 other older acts to have any of them signed to Kscope.

I detect nothing as original or exciting as Art Zoyd or Universe Zero in iamthemorning's music. I have yet to stay awake for an entire album of theirs. And I have tried.

But Gleb's solo LP is awesome.

Yeah I haven’t heard Iamthemorning yet myself, but I agree that Gleb’s solo album is indeed awesome and highly enjoyable.

I just ordered Ocean Sounds from Lasers Edge. I like their material.

But I have to give a shout out to Glebs solo as well. I think it may be my favorite CD this year.
