    All Yes Songs Ranked

been awhile since we had a good yes thread this oughta inspire some talk, all 183 yessongs ranked:

    http://ultimateclassicrock.com/yes-s...letter_4572276

as usual with these kind of lists it all gets a bit silly saying which song is the 143rd best vs 142nd and he does tend to just start lumping tracks from albums together presumably based on what album he likes more or less.

I don't see how on earth Abilene is your least favorite yes song though. I doubt it is anyone's favorite but revolting? bizarre.

Wow, they have "That, That Is" ranked in the Top 20.

They are saying: "Yes pretty much sucks, but they did create 50 good to great songs."

Lonely humans makes these lists just to get emails from people so they feel some sense of belonging in this world.

According to my patented Yes-o-meter, these are the ten best Yes songs:

    1. Close to the Edge
    2. Heart of the Sunrise
    3. Yours is No Disgrace
    4. And You and I
    5. Roundabout
    6. Starship Trooper
    7. Turn of the Century
    8. Face to Face
    9. Brother of Mine
    10. South Side of the Sky

#183 is a pretty fair choice. It came out at the height of my Yes fandom and even then it seemed obviously lousy.

(Jeremy Clarkson mode) Only they're aren't. The actual correct top 10 Yessongs would be:
    1. To Be Over
    2. Gates Of Delirium
    3. Close To The Edge
    4. Wondrous Stories
    5. Hearts
    6. And You And I
    7. South Side Of The Sky
    8. I Would Have Waited Forever
    9. Changes
    10. Starship Trooper

And that's the bottom line, because Silver Shoes said so!

And yet somehow they know that Steve Howe used a Telecaster on To Be Over, and the last section of Starship Trooper was re-appropriated by Howe from a Bodast track. That's pretty deep knowledge for someone who theoretically thinks the band at hand "sucks".

On the other hand, they also thought Jon Anderson played guitar on Vevey (it's a harp, you moron! There's even video footage of the recording session in existence!).

The fact that someone took the time to actually rank Yes songs beyond the top 50 means either the author was isolated in a mandatory health quarantine for a few weeks and/or he lost all access to his porn subscriptions/channels.

Pretty damn good, 10 out of 15 ain't bad!! ! Extremely close to my top 15 although I would adjust the order on some... and... agreed Roundabout should be on anyone's list but I would be stubborn and move it lower (15-20). So I would omit Roundabout, Turn of the century (top 20-25), Wonderous Stories (top 20-25) Endless Dream (top 25-30) and ... I'm an old timer saw them in the mid 70's and damn near very tour since but nothing from Tales ever clicked with me... Revealing Science is out!

I would add the other 2 tunes from Relayer, I've Seen all Good People, Parallels and The Calling.

Close to the Edge HAS to be number one!

The Ladder and Talk have to be the most underrated LP's in the catalogue.

    Why? Because you said so?

Talk suffers from some of the worst production I've ever heard in my life, particularly in regards to the drums and guitar tones. I still can't tell if Alan White was playing an acoustic kit on the album, or simply triggering samples.

Or maybe they’re in prison... Or maybe ranking all 183 songs was a condition of probation.

    1. Sound Chaser
    2. Everything else up to Tormato.
    3. Everything after Tormato.

Only have time to dash off a Top 5, but off the top of my head:

    1. Five Percent for Nothing
    2. Vevey (Part 1)
3 (tie). We Have Heaven (but only the reprise)
    3 (tie). Dear Father
    4. Owner (90124 version)

    1) "Five Per Cent for Nothing"
    2 [the rest]

yea I mean this whole thing is so obviously pointless that I can't help but respect it a little. like, ranking all the crappy bonus tracks amongst the stuff from H&E and OYE isn't interesting, neither is Yet Another Ranking of the top Yes tunes where you can predict the entire top 10 in some order. and yet...here it is

agreed on this I was much more interested in his ranking of the lower songs I definitely started skimming as I approached the end. I just don't see how last train can't be the worst though...

Not bad, but "Face to Face" has no business being in the top 10, especially if you are omitting "Siberian Khatru"!

"Last Train" was second to worst. He ranked "Step Beyond" quite a bit higher than three songs from Talk and higher than "Lift Me Up". Weird. "Time is Time" as high as 116?
