You can’t beat his lyrics and the music and melodies on his debut. For a million albums now I’ve bought his output hoping he’d top it but Fish is only ever as good as the writers he’s working with it would seem.

I haven’t waded into this yet, but I agree Raingods is kind of underrated. A few of the songs on it always sound better than I remember when I listen. Yeah, the suite is great, “Tilted Cross” is great, “Tumbledown” and “Mission Statement” are solid songs I always enjoy.
It’s a colorful album, somehow.
Isn't Raingods OOP?
I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart
Raingods is okay, my least fave is the epic.
Of the first five proper albums, it's fifth in my personal order:
- Vigil 1a
- Sunsets 1b
- Internal Exile
- Suits
- Raingods...
But tons of awesome stuff in those five.
Death inspires me like a dog inspires a rabbit
I found the remastered version of Raingods and it included a couple live versions of "Plague"

^ A Plague of "A Plague of Ghosts!"
"Sunsets on Empire" for me. Honorable mention to "Internal Exile"
Vigil and Internal Exile. His covers album was quite good too.
