It's been a while since I listened to jazz radio, but WBGO was usually my favorite. I'm sure I ended up listening to WKCR if WBGO was playing something I didn't care for.

Public radio is the way to go, no Radio Ga-Ga for me!

One thing that now bothers me (not music related) about public radio stations, museums, advocacy groups, etc., most charities actually, these days is you can no longer just make a "donation." They always refer to it as a Membership, which they then ask you to renew every year. It's fine to ask for more money, but just call it another donation, not a membership. It's like stores referring to their customers as "Guests." F that, I'm a Customer - I'm not in your store to pay a social call! I hate that kind of pretend terminology from businesses. Rant off.

WBGO and WKRC are my main two radio stations in the car.
Please don't ask questions, just use google.

Never let good music get in the way of making a profit.

Been listening to these two stations for over 35 years since I moved to the States. I was so blown away by 24 hour jazz that I used to record everything I could onto cassette tapes. I would stick in a C120 or C240 if I could find them and the click as it reached the end would wake me up and I’d turn it over. I would have days worth of recordings which I would send to my friends in Scotland. You have to realize we had a 2 hour jazz show with the late great Jim Waugh on Sunday night on Radio Clyde and a 1 hour Humphrey Littleton show on BBC Radio 2 and Jazz record requests on BBC Radio 3 with Steve Voce - I think that was two hours long. That was all. That was the only jazz we were able to listen to - so when I sent those tapes over, it blew my friends’ collective minds and they were passed round like Lyndsey Graham’s ass in cell block 4. I still have a few tapes of birthday broadcasts which WKCR still do for about 7-8 of the biggest jazz names in history. Great memories.

^^^ You misspelled Senator Graham's name.

On the subject of Jazz (and in particular Jazz/Rock), the best radio shows or stations that I recall fondly recall were:

Beyond Jazz - Sirius Radio: Man, did this station on Sirius satellite radio overwhelm me before it was eliminated. It featured mainly modern Jazz and Fusion material, even delving into Jam bands that were popular at the time. They even had a feature entitled "Fusion Fridays" in which the whole day consisted of long and deep cuts of Jazz/Rock from every source and country. Then, along came the new reality of Sirius/XM radio and now they have just a standard legacy "Jazz" station and a "Smooth Jazz" one as well.

Sunset Jazz - KSAS - Liberty/North KC: This was a 3 hour program on Sunday afternoons with a DJ named John Duncan who played mostly newer Jazz and a lot of Fusion including Perigeo, Return To Forever and many other Prog leaning Jazz/Rock artists. It was the bees knees of Jazz Rock heaven.

Other - Chicago's main Public Radio station eliminated Jazz from it's menu years ago and the only one left is WBEZ, which plays mostly old time and standard Jazz though out the day. They do have some good programs on weekends, including Jazz Tropicale, Taste Of Brazil and a few spots where newer Jazz is featured.

Man, I miss those good old days.

Oy - just saw that Phil Schaap has passed - a true New York Jazz Radio legend if ever there was one, with a very distinctive and instantly recognizable voice.
