There's a recording from a couple of years ago where he sounded fine singing Sam Cooke. He was playing it safe, which is always smart.

I think he's smart enough to know his limits, unlike many out there who embarrass themselves trying to hold onto something they lost instead of embracing what they still have.

Not support to sing. But imagine if you made your name singing in your highest reaches, and then you have hits you have to sing in that range for the rest of your days. It slips away for most people as they age and surely did for many of the greats of the 70s. I wonder if they ever talked to others in the same boat. Or would want to?

There are a whole lot of songs called "You Belong to Me" out there (and indeed, a whole lot of songs called "I Need You"). I would have said Elvis Costello, myself.

Steve Perry Records Beatles Cover for Future Solo Record

Former Journey frontman Steve Perry is going to be recording new music soon, but it won't be with his old bandmates. The singer says he's working on a solo album, but it's been a challenging process since he's been out of the music business for so long.

Perry tells the Associated Press that he's recorded three cover songs and played them for a few close friends. One is a Beatles tune, but he wouldn't offer any clue as to which one, nor would he hint at what the other two covers are.

This article doesn't mean that any of those tunes made it to the final track listing, but...
