I did see Barrie in the clips last night-- Definitely no Martin mention tho. Interestingly, the drummer who seemed to feature most in the drummer montage (during Dharma) was Dave Mattacks-- a great drummer but one who wasn't in Tull for long.

I got to see him play though! He locked in quite well with Pegg IMO. That was on the Little Light Music tour, '92 at Massey Hall. Unique set list now that I look at it! Rocks On The Road was a good live track from the latter period.

I've been fortunate to see him with Pegg a few times in Fairport. That is/was an earth shakingly great rhythm section.

There was footage of him but I remember about the same amount of Clive, Barrie and Mark Craney. Not sure if Doane Perry was included.

Robert Christgau of the Village Voice was a twat NY critic who regularly savaged nearly all prog music, but would give 5 star ratings to the New York Dolls.

I think Christgau is a uniquely perceptive and articulate individual who happens not to share my tastes (at all). His Tull reviews that are linked in the VV article for Benefit and Aqualung are spot-on, except for the fact that he doesn't like the music and I do.

Nice article BTW. I like how it ends with the Hunter Thompson comparison.

Lester Bangs could at least do that and be entertaining at it. Christgau could only come off as a smug asshole.

And now word is that Maartin Allcock has passed on (not yet on his website, but reported in a Facebook post by Yusuf/Cat Stevens).

Ah, damn. That sucks. I loved what he brought to Fairport as well as Tull and other stuff he was on (WAZ etc).

    Thanks Maart.
