I tried resurrecting my old El Paraiso Records thread to discuss this, but I don't think anyone noticed. So I'll try it here.

I just got my hands on Mythic Sunship - Ouraboros, which contains three heavy slabs of goodness. I present the opening track...

I'm diving into it again this morning. Is it kraut-inflected stoner rock, or is it stoner-inflected kraut rock? It's good without a label.

In light of the "Prog is dead" thread, I have to say that if the feeling and intent are true, and the band can play, that's really what matters. As far as I'm concerned, these boys put out the pure product.

Yes...did we not already discuss it here? Maybe it had its own thread? It's every bit as solid as Euporie Tide. I am liking this more structured approach of theirs.

I also have Return to Sky. If you liked Euporie Tide, it's a no-brainer. They vary the levels a bit more in this one, so it doesn't spend quite as much time being heavy, but it's good all the way through.

It took me a while to catch on to Causa Sui. They sounded too mellow from what I'd heard. then I heard them sound HEAVY and I latched on. I need to get Pewter and Summer.

I'm somewhat new to the genre, as an identifiable genre, although I hear Sabbath and Blue Cheer in a lot of these bands. But Causa Sui ......they have a Hendrix influence, but there's something different about what they're doing....it's "surfy," if that makes sense...not "surf Rock" of course, but it makes me think of the surfing scene. I dig it. What is this "desert rock?"

If you like the heavy, I would suggest going for The Summer Sessions first. The Pewt'r Sessions are more electronic-experimental in nature, not that there isn't heaviness, it just doesn't abound as it does in The Summer Sessions

I know what you mean. They named their label "El Paraiso" and it seems to evoke a more tropical/Mediterranean vibe than anything metaphysical, to me anyway. Considering they are from Denmark, I don't think we can call it "desert rock." I've kind of assumed it is a kind of obsession with summer, the beach, and all the activities associated with them (an obsession which might be explained by living through the Nordic winter). At least these have been my half-formed conclusions from what I've read/seen/heard.

I like the term "heavy psych". I listen to more heavy psych bands than straight up stoner bands. I find there's more variety to the music.

Heavy psych is a good label.

    We should resurrect that thread.

I haven't been venturing into the stoner/doom thing too much of late, focusing more on heavy psych; but this one caught my ear the other day:
