Sonar with David Torn - Vortex (one of the few albums recently where I felt like just pressing play again every time it had finished)
Mary Halvorson - Code Girl (always liked Halvorson's stuff, but this has singing in a style not a million miles away from a band like Thinking Plague)

Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

Been a very slow start to 2018 but I expect Arena, Spock's Beard, The Sea Within, and Amorphis to change that.

It's quite a different vibe, but you might check out the Calibro 35 album, which draws on cosmigroove and cinematic funk a la Janko Nilovic. As with the IB you get airtight musicianship with an expanded instrumental palette including horn section, strings and tuned percussion. If that sounds like something you'd dig, you probably will.

I'm not liking the guitar riffs on this album... Much prefer their earlier stuff which is awesome.. This album sounds a little too heavy for my taste!
I have this and I like it a lot. It also made me look into David Cross output. I had no idea so many gems are hidden behind his name. Well worth investigating.
Some heavy hitters on that list!
