Elton John: I'm Still Standing – A Grammy Salute

I saw the second half of this last night - that Davey Johnstone-led band was great! Davey himself was excellent on differing styles of guitar work. (He was mentioned as the Musical Director pf the event).

I know I can look this up, but as he done things outside of performing with Elton?

I saw Elton John around 1980 with his original band. Totally memorable show! Awesome.

I missed this also. I just checked my Directv search, and its being re-aired on the POP channel (which I don't think I've ever even watched), on 4/15, a 2 hour show. So if you have Directv you are in luck. Was the original broadcast 2 hours, or longer?

add--just found a list of songs and performers:

Elton John Grammy Salute Concert – Performers & Songs List!

“The Bitch Is Back” – Miley Cyrus
“Candle in the Wind” – Ed Sheeran
    “Daniel” – Sam Smith
“I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues” – Alessia Cara
    “Your Song” – Lady Gaga
“Rocket Man” – Little Big Town
“Border Song” – Christopher Jackson & Valerie Simpson
“Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” – SZA & Shawn Mendes
“Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters” – Maren Morris
“We All Fall in Love Sometimes” – Chris Martin
“My Father’s Gun” – Miranda Lambert
“Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” – Kesha
“Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” – John Legend
“Bennie and the Jets” – Elton John
    “Philadelphia Freedom” – Elton John
“I’m Still Standing” – Elton John and Ensemble

to be honest, I am not a huge fan of other performers doing iconic tunes that they don't normally sing in front of the original artist, but there are a few performances I am curious about how they turned out.

Yes, two hours, with plenty of commercials, It was on CBS, so not sure if there is a way to see a replay via them.

I tuned in when Sam Smith was mid-way through.
Most renditions were straight forward; Elton and audience rose at the conclusion of each, giving thanks to the performer.

"Border Song" was mostly spoken work with piano
I thought Maren Morris doing 'Mona Lisas..." was the best
I don't recall ever hearing 'We All Fall in Love Sometimes" and "My Father's Gun" before, so I don't know how to 'rate' them
I thought John Legend was good with "Don't Let the Sun..."

As I mentioned, I thought Elton's band was the star - other than the piano-only or small violin section numbers, backed all the performances.
