I just ran through Disconnected/Only Ordinary Men/those tracks that came with S&M the other day. The later I folded into one album and for an album cover on WMP I chose a black and white photo of a woman pulling an album from a big wall of records. And no, she's not naked! You guys and your filthy minds. She's wearing a black bra and a thong.
I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart

Careful what you wish for tho...the description is mislabeled, but this is a real, genuine (but dark and therefore SFW) video of a burlesque routine that was done using our cover version of "Avatar" by Dead Can Dance:

I have no idea how someone came up with the idea (the tribute album was actually quite good, we were one of the LEAST interesting acts on there), and I actually did try to correct the details on the video but got crickets. So...prog shows up in the most damnedest places sometimes!

Actually, because f**k it, it's my damned thread and I can derail it if I want...

Here's the actual track (I think it's mostly good quality): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_zR0sicY5U

It's noteworthy for a couple reasons:

    * Excluding our first demo, this is actually the only release that includes the original lineup of the band: Charlie, Tim, myself, Jason (guitars) and Laurie.
    * Jason and I weren't on good terms at the times, so I kind of took the original version we did and "Kevin Moore'd" it into this form. So it is almost a remix of a cover kind of deal. Not my worst patchwork job!
    * Seriously...it's a pretty cool collection if you can find it. I don't recall all the players but Ulver, Anathema and the Gathering I believe all show up with covers. Just being on the same release as an Ulver track was kind of a big "SWEET" moment for me.
    * As noted above...someone apparently thought it was groovy enough to strip. So, there's that going for it.

Laurie? She and Jason live in MD somewhere now. They formed a band called Todesbonden, which has some releases out. I believe she also does some music / vocal work for some video games and possibly even some TV stuff. If you want to look her up, her full artist name is Laurie Ann Haus. We didn't exactly part on the best of terms TBH but I don't have any ill toward them. We did a show with Todesbonden a few years back and honestly, I think that band was/is a far better showcase for her strengths than we ever were.

Yes I am, though at this moment combining the V collection with Cubase seems to have problems with processor load.

Ah, that stinks. I have issues between Sonar and the V-Collection, but I've assumed it was related to my PC being a non-networked Win7 machine that is not automatically receiving patches and updates.

I try to use a piano from the sampler as replacement for the pianosound. For the Grey Piano from the V-collection I use the sustain pedal, to create a more or less simular sound. I try to find a sound of my Waldorf Blofeld, to replace the Jup-8.
It is prety weird, because with earlier recordings I didn't have those problems.

I remember when John posted this a couple of years ago, and I was struck by his initial surprise the response was so positive.
Beautiful piano piece, bits here and there remind me of Tony Banks, albeit a little faster...
Why am I resurrecting an older thread? because I've been thinking of this song and how touched I was by it's beauty, and I wanted to hear it again, and share it's beauty with us all.

We were talking in another thread about the talent and passion many of our musician members here have, and I have to say, John is at the top of the list in my eyes.

Thank you John for sharing your beautiful creation.
I don't know how you maintained those finger movements at that speed, I can barely play a triad in time. lol

Nice tune and excellent playing. Good feel and dynamics. I also use the Arturia collection and have to tweak the velocity curve on the piano when recording. For some reason with the standard setting I feel like I have to pound on the keys to get them to sound like I want, and that's not a good way to play. So I set it easier when recording and sometimes bring it back closer to the default on playback to enhance the dynamic on softer passages. Yes, I really like the variety of piano's and miking and room acoustics in this ciollection. You can mane the piano sound like anything anywhere.

Holy crap, I totally forgot about this thread

Wow...that is some considerable flattery, Richard...thank you, really and sincerely. It's an exceptionally lovely feeling, knowing that folks appreciate these odd little things I've let out in the wild

Minor aside: technically, I am a trained percussionist from back in high school/college (my scholarship was actually awarded for percussion, not piano). I let most of that go decades ago due to some shoulder/arm/wrist challenges, but I think that rhythmic foundation probably helped with pieces like this, where the speed is mostly down to odd syncopated patterns between the two hands. There's a bit near the end of the first 3rd with some shifty patterns that was basically an exercise in rhythmic hand independence and things.

Anyway...I think the "fast" is mostly down to the percussion background manifesting in my poor abused hands

Yeah...in general I find the presets in the Piano V are a bit muted in terms of velocity (at least for my tastes). But I do enjoy the flexibility with crafting the sound and the room quite a bit

How are things coming on new Ephemeral Sun tunes? Or is it a casualty of quarantine?

    THOSE guys?!? Eewww...

we're a band that does best in a room together so we took a nice bit of time off during Peak 'Rona but we've met socially here and there. In the last month we've gotten together to start compiling the various "bits" and thinking about what might work where/how. I've done a bit of my own stuff too, although if I'm honest the pandemic blues kept that to a minimum.

I'm hopeful that we can do a show in 2022 though! That'd be a lovely way to flip a proverbial bird at the pandemic if we can finally get it in our collective rear view mirror

I can play this way, but it STILL takes me years to finish songs sometimes

Composing often goes rather quick, though I think the piece I'm currently working on, took me something like half a year in composing.
