    Just to smack the nail a few more times:
    If you use 'login with Facebook' on a web site, click the FB like button/icon on any random web site,
    You guessed it, those non FB places now are added to your data cache.
    Google and G+ likes and logins have the same 'consequence'.
    You are a product being marketed.

    The only thing I've learned from this thread is that Trane is pretty ignorant about Facebook and wears a tin foil hat in his spare time.

    Agreed. The posturing is pretty thick.

    One day, you'll realize... probably too late, though
    my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

    Tails is a live operating system that you can start on almost any computer from a USB stick or a DVD.
    It aims at preserving your privacy and anonymity, and helps you to:

    * use the Internet anonymously and circumvent censorship;
    * all connections to the Internet are forced to go through the Tor network;
    * leave no trace on the computer you are using unless you ask it explicitly;
    * use state-of-the-art cryptographic tools to encrypt your files, emails and instant messaging.

    A dollar late and a day short for 87 million Americans. The presumption of privacy protection is broken.

    I know one person who was pretty much forced into it. he never posts on it, but he had to have an account to get info from his manager. He's probably laughing at everyone else and telling them "I told you so".

    I had no choice but to create a personal page in order to have a business one. One of the many ways FB sucks. I do frequent it (probably too much), but their algorithms are bonkers. And it does expose how many people are utterly stupid.

    I'm preferring Twitter more these days - probably because my baseball buddies are all there.

    It's so wonderful to be selectively ignorant when these recent developments have made it blissful.

    VEVO hack

    For those on Facebook, this JUST IN: https://www.facebook.com/thehackerne...73634632650396

    Hacker hijacked Vevo's multiple YouTube accounts and deleted #Despacito song, the most-viewed YouTube video with over 5 billion views, as well as a few more popular songs.

    If myspace had not screwed around with shit, I would have still stayed with them. Until they changed everything and erased everything I had, I was using FB as an arcade.

    The problems I have with FB are numerous and it goes beyond the selling of information:

    1. They use your permissions to share your information to circumvent any friends who have not given permission. So, if I had that guy as a friend (I don't because he seems very private. I know of him because I am friends with people who know him and are friends with him), they would be using me and any posts I have going out to back door him for information.

    2. There is a flagrant bias going on. I had actual death threats at me that I reported, only to have FB return with that there was no violation. meanwhile friends I have with band pages, political groups and other things get banned over what looks like nothing, such as promoting a concert or posting a meme.

    3. Social engineering crap is insane. Those quizzes flying around have hidden in them questions that often appear as "secret questions" to things such as banking sites and work sites.

    4. People can add you to groups without permission.

    To name a few.
