Someday, Steven Wilson will redo all the Zeppelin Catalog and the whole thing starts again.

The original release seemed overly compressed, so let's hope this fixes that.

I've been wanting a vinyl version of this forever. Glad it's finally coming out.

Good God. Fair enough, get it out on record for those interested but why re-release the CD if there's nothing new?

I would assume the LP and Blu-Ray are the principle markets, but any re-release adds hype and so ups the sales. It would be silly not to include the CDs as well. And, who knows, they may have substantially changed the mix.

Not sure why they don't release this along with it.

The VERY lengthy piano solo and guitar improv in No Quarter is quite unique. Is that "Low Spark of High Healed Boys" they're toying with?

Page says there will be multiple releases for the 50th anniversary. It's possible Earl's Court will be a release on its own.

There's been no talk of a remix, just remastering. (It was already loud, god knows what remastering will do)

Well, I got about one minute into "Rock and Roll" and figured out why. Plus, it would probably take Page a year to clean up all his bum notes.

Probably to piss off Blu-Ray fans that there's no 3CD/BD version! Motherf-ers!

Overall, Plant's voice is really not so hot on most of the Earl's Court stuff I've ever checked out (they played 5 nights there in 1975: May 17, 18, 23, 24, and 25). Of course, there were a few true gems, so it's easy to see why Page selected the tracks he did for the 2003 Led Zeppelin DVD (though I disagree with the inclusion of that version of "Stairway to Heaven"). Overall, though, the performances on video from the non-DVD tracks that I've seen are all rather sub-par to my ears. YYMM.

Let's face it, there weren't many nights in 75 when the whole band was killing it. Then factor in the chances of one of those being captured on film.

Jimmy's playing his cards very close to his chest...and probably right to do so, given how disappointing the last Zep reissues were.

I wonder if there are any usable live recordings form the tour of Europe they did in 1980...

There are a couple of reasonable soundboards in circulation, I think, though I doubt they'll be up to Page's idea of worthy of release. After all, this is the man who actually spliced performances on 'HTWWW', in order to get a "perfect" 'Dazed & Confused' from the two available recordings. We won't get any genuine, unedited live material until someone else is in charge of Zeppelin reissues/releases.

That's what the bootlegs are for. There are plenty of them out there. I'm hoping Page has some things that haven't made the bootleg market yet.

Well, they could always remaster it again properly. No compression or crap EQ would be nice.

I'm wondering--those of you who bought the original package. Was it in any way a revelation? I'm a fan but not big enough to seek out bootlegs and stuff. I loved the DVD set but the West Was Won cd set? I gave it 5-6 spins and it has been collecting dust ever since. Should I revisit it?

I for one really enjoyed "How the West Was Won." The sound quality is pretty damn good for a live album recorded in 1972. Robert Plant's vocals are stellar - he goes for almost all of the hard-to-hit notes energetically and is arguably at his absolute peak. Page is clearly paying attention and bringing it, and Bonham & Jones are their usual killer selves. This all adds up to an exceptionally tight performance. Not only that, you get to hear Houses of the Holy tracks "Over the Hills and Far Away," "Dancing Days," and "The Ocean" being performed nearly a full year before that album was released and in perhaps their best-ever live versions (unless there's a boot out there somewhere that I haven't yet heard). What's not to like?

The little acoustic set on How the West Was Won really sparkles. I love how Plant yells his dog's name at the end of "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp".
I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart

Plant did that quite frequently. I loved HTWWW. Even though I've boat loads of boots of varying quality, to have this, even with Page's tinkering, was and is a delight. I'll pick up the 4 LP set. Always thought it needed a proper vinyl version anyway. Good Stuff!
