Before a RIP thread can be started we should all agree if the deceased was prog or not.
^^ Waiting for that day, man. I want to start that thread!
Such a hater, man. Why would you look forward to the guy's death? He never hurt anyone (apart from the quality of any TV show he's ever appeared on)
Tried to start one last year :
http://www.progressiveears.org/forum...The-RIP-Thread
of course.......it died!
While we are on the subject........
Former Trapeze / Judas Priest drummer Dave Holland died today.
This is why we need an RIP thread - if I saw a thread titled simply RIP Dave Holland I would have fucking lost it.
I must admit I have never heard of Dave Holland from Judas Priest but RIP to him and condolences to his family, friends and fans - however I am a huge, huge fan of the English jazz bassist and composer Dave Holland.

I'm not a fan, but...
We're trying to build a monument to show that we were here
It won't be visible through the air
And there won't be any shade to cool the monument to prove that we were here. - Gene Parsons, 1973
Maybe the RIP thread section needs to be further subdivided into VIP RIP and "Other Peeps That Died"...

I say let RIP threads stick around a day or two then it's off to the RIP section. Or bring back private message groups. I wouldn't want to be the one who decided whose passing was more relevant than another. It's easy enough to ignore a thread but I agree that the O/T section is starting to resemble an obituary page.
Let's be honest, the quality and quantity of the on topic music content at PE is average at best. It's also in part that it's the same 100 people who post here and they have run out of things to say. The OT threads like "whatever happened to", movies, sports threads, special interests, have more activity than most music threads. The sites stats confirm this.
WANTED: Sig-worthy quote.
