Not really an open call, per se. He used some ingenuity, getting the names and e-mails of people he thought would be in the personnel department for each team and just reached out with his resume. Every team begins their hiring process about a month after the World Series, so he contacted every team, and some replied back with applications or phone interviews. And some asked if he would be at the meetings (he's gone to them the last three years). It's also a great place to network and just learn. From what I understand, many positions are filled this way.
Keep in mind, this is pretty much for a low-paying internship, despite his two-years' experience. He's just trying to get his foot in the door.

Looks like NY finalized their deal with Happ. This is a good one. Their starting staff is looking pretty good, as long as Sevi stops tipping his pitches and CC holds up fairly well.
I don't think they're done, though. I'd like to see them trade for some new young arms for the system.

So, I noticed that the Yankees have brought on Carlos Beltran as a special advisor. The media speculates it's because he and Manny have the same agent. I think that's more coincidence than anything. They don't need Beltran to help sell the New York Yankees. And I just don't think NY is that interested in Machado for the contract he's looking for. They really don't need him.
But, I will go way out on a limb and predict that Aaron Boone's successor (and that could be a long way off) will be Carlos Beltran.

If the Yanks are interested in Manny Ramirez, they have some serious issues to deal with...
Yesterday, the Blue Jays released Troy Tulowitzki and swallowed the $38 million remaining on his contract.

He then held an open workout to show MLB clubs what he still has.
Somebody will give him a one-year deal. Any rebuilding team would be wise to do so, in fact. Give him a low-risk contract now, hope that he produces and turn around and trade him in June. Braves did that several times over the past few years, and it usually worked in their favor.
I want to dynamite your mind with love tonight.
Scott, it looks like your Phillies are the front-runners in the Machado race.
I hope that's the case, as NY certainly has no need for him.

Cards signed Andrew Miller to a 2 year deal. Desperately needed some LHP relief, hopefully this works out better than the disasters of the Brett Cecil/Greg Holland signings.
^^ Three stints on the DL last year. High-risk move for the Cards.

yep, the recent injuries are a concern, but I would hope they don't do this contract unless they're satisfied re his health, and so while risky, could be nice upside.
Just saw that the Dodgers unloaded a few OF and salaries to the Reds (Kemp, Puig, Wood) for Homer (always hurt) Bailey! (1-14, 6.09 ERA) and a few others. A prelude for LA signing Harper?.....

Cheezyboys have been dormant so far, and if they think their starting pitching in 2018 still getting them to game 7 of the NLCS wasn't an aberration, they better get their cranium extracted from their rectum fast!
Jimmy Nelson is no savior, and they do not have anyone close to a shutdown #1 starter right now. I laugh at the Brewer fans who call Chacin an ace of a staff.

I would not be surprised if the NYY are in the race for Tulo. Seems like a better move than Machado to buy some time while Gregorius heals.
Also, who in their right mind would sign a pitcher named Homer, anyway?

That's true and why I wondered why the Blue Jays signed him in the first place. But, any team that signs him will do so for the MBL minimum salary, since he's still being paid by the Blue Jays. Gregorius might not be ready until August. If NY can get 3-4 months out of Tulo, it would be a worthwhile bet. He'd at least be playing on natural grass.

This guy's an asshole. And, apparently, too cowardly to back up his warped opinion with action, since he's not even submitting a ballot.
