Happy for Chipper. Vlad, Jim and Trevor also quite deserving.

As I posted earlier, agree with Vlad and Thome. Chipper not deserving of first ballot admission imo for the very specific reasons I earlier posted. A 1st ballot HOF should be somebody so obviously iconic that you don't even need to look up the stats. You know their numbers. Somebody who at least hit some iconic milestones, ie 500; 3000 etc. A Mays, Aaron, Gibson or Koufax etc. He could have been admitted in the next few years while other backlogged worthy candidates like Mussina and McGriff were voted in. Whats the big deal if he waits a year or two? But there's a lot of media man crush for good ol Chipper.
Ridiculous that McGriff only getting about 25% support. Again too many dopes clogging their ballots voting for PED cheaters instead.
Disagree with Hoffman. I can't think of one signature HOF moment he's known for. Known for not delivering in big spots. He's a saves accumulator in a lot of meaningless games. What's ridiculous is how a starting pitcher with over 3500 IP and almost 300 wins is discounted because the pocket protector crowd doesn't understand the significance of those wins and IP, yet they fully embrace the artificial stat of the 1 or 2 batter "save", which is even more dependent on team status (you can't get a save unless the team is ahead when you enter the game). So a pitcher that pitched in one third of those innings gets inducted, and the pitcher that affected the game outcome far more is passed over. To me RP are like kickers in football--they are specialists who must be absolutely extraordinary and iconic to get into the Hall, and very few should get in. Same with full time DHs, who don't have to experience the wear and tear of playing the field and playing defense, which is one half the game.

Holy Shit!!
In the same day, Brewers sign free agent Lorenzo Cain (originally drafted by them) to a 5 year deal, and get Christian Yelich from the Marlins for Lewis Brinson & 3 other guys I haven't heard of yet. Yelich is signed through 2021.
I think the cover of the coffin is opening.

Brewers fans have to be excited after those two deals. Their outfield is scary.

Braun has handled his youthful stupidity far better than a lot of others who went to the same skewed school of pharmacology (after his additional denial, which was also stupid).
At least he knows what the word contrite means and has done well making up for it locally both with his time and his money.

It looks like the Beerboys are pretty serious this off-season. First Yelich & Cain and now they just signed free agent Nats reliever Matt Albers for 2 years.
This is from their press release:
Albers, 35, is coming off his best Major League season after going 7-2 with a 1.62 ERA and 2 saves in a career-high 63 relief appearances with Washington. He surrendered only 35 hits and produced 63 strikeouts in 61.0 innings pitched. Albers ranked among National League relievers last season in WHIP (2nd, 0.85), opponent batting average (3rd, .166), ERA (3rd, 1.62) and wins (T3rd, 7).

That’s smart. They need to learn from the mistakes from teams like the Pirates. You have a window of opportunities which is typically 3 years. If the Brewers aren’t aggressive now, they may as well rebuild.
Also consider that the Pirates and Reds are in rebuild and the Cards are not quite there. On paper it makes it a 2-team race with the Cubs. Best time to strike.

Looks like the so-called Winter off-season "Freeze-out" is bubbling up. Things might get a bit ugly.

This could be the biggest off season they have ever had. Have to give them credit for going out and doing what they need to. Missed the playoffs by one game so we'll see. The Nats are a really odd club, just can't get over the hump. The Cubs aren't so comfortable right now. Do you come over for many games?

The Twins were talking to Yu Darvish but like so many free agents he's wanting a contract for too many years. There's been too many teams burned by similar deals and I have a feeling that someone else will take this sucker deal.

I usually drive down myself once or twice a season for weekday day games. Senior tix are half price, so I can sit right behind the plate or in the first few rows of the infield cheaply and pay more attention to foul balls than when I used to sit in the Uecker seats when my kids were young.
