Thread: R.I.P. Dolores O'Riordan of The Cranberries

  1. #26
Got a text from my cousin this afternoon telling me about this. Really sad.

She had a great voice. I really liked some of those Cranberries songs from the 90s; "Dreams" was my favorite.

I enjoyed The Cranberries. They had an edge to their music which suited me perfectly. My sincerest condolences to her family.

Two of my sisters-in-law were repeatedly abused by a relative over several years. When the news came out, their parents accused the girls of being sluts and whores. And, as you can easily imagine in such an enviroment, mental health issues developed once they got old enough to move out of the house where the abuse occurred. One of the women is currently living with us because she cannot survive on her own.

    Ugh.

It's good for society and healthy for victims to be able to talk about their ordeals, but it's also really disturbing how ubiquitous sexual abuse is.

Very sad. My daughter, who's 35, is a singer who performs in musical theatre, and was in a band back in her teens, loved her as a teen, and was very sad about this when I talked to her yesterday. So young.

RIP. It’s hard enough to enter middle life without any of the earlier issues she had to deal in some way with. Plus, she had such a distinctive voice, women’s voices change too, perhaps she had to make a lot of adjustments..weren’t they in the studio recording?

So *that* is the sound that eminated from an apartment below me three days ago. 45 minutes of that...

I'll have to check, but that honor, I believe, goes to Sarah McLachlan.

We know this much: she isn't the last of them.

Yodelling came to the States with Austrian and German immigrants and there are traces of late 19th century Yodelling bands. Here is a track from the 1930s with a Yodelling Jazz duo

Well they were both around about the same time in pop, however, I think that O'Riordan featured the yoduling much more than Sarah Mclachlen, a lot like Focus did with Hocus Pocus.

There's some tabloid shit about this being an intentional fentanyl OD. But again, that's tabloid shit.

The half a dozen or so Cranberries tunes that I know were and are GOOD 'earworms'. Not just a quality voice, but quite original (to my ears, anyway). RIP, fair maiden.

Not a fan of her music at all but I have to hand it to her, she had a hell of a voice. Sad and tragic to lose her at only 46 years.
