Beside my love for everything prog I also love to bath my soul into the musical realms of of sophisticated ladies pop:
Elsiane (incredible voice)
Linnea Olsson (a woman and her cello)
School of Seven Bells
Do you also?

Wow, cool stuff JKL2000. So much talent out there.
Elsiane sounds very like Tori Amos' daughter, have a listen to Job's Coffin on Tori's Night of the Hunters album, her daughter guests.
There was a big thread on Kimbra on the old board, definitely do not overlook her album Vows.

Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?
Remember Feist? That wasn't her name, it was the name of her band. But maybe it was her name too actually. Anyway, I didn't like her or anything, but does she still exist?
And the one above - is her name Lou or Lamb? Not sure I'm into her.

additional shout outs to
kiki dee
nomiya maki (pizzicato five)
björk (of course)
tasmin archer (90s one hit wonder (“sleeping satellite”) – amazing vocalist)
and many others!
Interesting thread! That Tirill tune was particularly beautiful! I liked Bat For Lashes too; the tune didn't slay me, but her voice did and that female drummer was laying down a most compelling groove!
"My girl'" in the contemporary female singer/songwriter/musician realm is Imogen Heap. The first time I ever heard her name and got a small taste of what she does was on this "live in the studio" video; just a girl singing, clapping her hands and building layers with a couple of loopers:
I went out and bought her album "Speak For Yourself" after that and from the very first track, I realized that that live video barely scratched the surface of what this classically trained pianist/expert synth programmer/orchestrator and ProTools whiz could do. LOVE her!
I like Imogen, I do have her latest album.
Some more good ones from yesterday:
re- kiki dee ... she always struck me as sort of a dusty springfield for the 70s and 80s, but there’s definitely more to her than the “tags along with elton” label. this song just oozes class, despite being somewhere along the halfway mark to ABBA, late-period-ELO and show tunes – great number:
dusty. now we’re heading somewhere.
Fave Kiki Dee album is her 1977 self-titled release produced by EJ and Clive Franks:
She was one of the 60s backing vocalist studio rats alongside the aforementioned Dusty, the Chanter Sisters (who wrote “Star”), Madeline Bell, Lesley Duncan et al.
Lesley Duncan had an Elton John connection, in that he covered her “Love Song.” Here’s Lesley live in 1971 singing “Chain of Love” (I’m shocked that this exists, and in such high quality!):

I know this thread is very old, but I saw Elsiane mentioned, and I really love that group. Her voice is quite unique, but very addictive.
Good thread
