^yeah, that Serious Beak is pretty wild. they got a newer one too. glad you liked Mammoth. should have noted there were some vocals in a few of those others but I was really just thinkin' bout the instruments, not the pipes.

That's pretty cool. Have you checked out any of Eric Fratzke's work with Happy Apple (bass) or The Dave King Trucking Company (guitar)? Definitely classifiable as jazz, although the Trucking Company is a little less so.

Do you have any Zebulon Pike? They're awesome

Turing Machine. Hard-hitting and very informed by Don Cab, but more minimalistic. Highly emotive still.

And the excellent but sadly long gone San Diego wonder which was Sleeping People

Plus PAK, the inimitable project of ex-Molecules mainhead Ron Anderson (gtr/bs), here with music specifically written for Keith Abrams' drumming in a hypercharged cartoonafish-dish.

And the -awesome- Yowie, as already mentioned:

I can't help but recommend my short-lived, admittedly-poorly-named, but nevertheless apt project Three Piece Combo. Qualities include:

    * Features members from Secret Chiefs 3/miRthkon (i.e. me)
    * I've also been in other bands with other musicians already mentioned in this thread. It's a family!
    * The full length debut (linked below) mixed by Dan from Sleepytime Gorilla Museum/Free Salamander Exhibit/et al.
    * Ticks all the boxes: odd times, unpredictable arrangements, even a few syncopated quintuplets!

Note about the band name: we were going for the gimmick of being purposefully "generic" but turns out that was a huge marketing mistake. Oh well!

Here's something by Arch Echo called "Hip Dipper". Instrumental Prog-Metal/Math Rock at it's best.
