It certainly sounds like The Blue Jays to me (Justin Hayward & John Lodge) but I don't find a track with these lyrics on their album, or their solo albums that followed.
Haven't played the track, (not convenient,) but other bands with a Moody Blues sound who may be worth checking against the lyrics are Alco, Agincourt, and Orchestrator.
