    Mandatory Hallowe'en Music Thread

What music do you like to listen to for this grooviest of holidays?

    I'll start with this one:

    Cool Thread!

From the projections of Halloween images playing across the Dapper Dan's and the surrounding area, I would wager that this was filmed in the late afternoon on a "Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party" day. They are a hoot! One buys a special ticket for the event and the rest of the rabble are kicked out of the park around 6pm. Disney goes all out for these events and adults can come in costume. But the apropos element is that the Dapper Dans (seen in the clip) get a makeover and sing as the "Cadaver Dans." They have ghoulish costumes and face make-up and sing nothing but scary tunes.

Anyhoo, I still have a couple of cassette "mix" tapes that my late brother created back in the late 70's that we would use for our Halloween events...lots of obvious "scary" tracks from the Stones, Eagles, etc.

A few years ago, I came across a compilation called Still Dead: The Grim Reapers Jukebox. That's what I play around now. It's a wonderful collection of death and mayhem songs like "Leader of the Pack" by the Shangri-Las, "Laurie" by Dickey Lee, and "Long Black Limousine" by Vern Stovall. There's also more obscure numbers like "Goodbye Baby" by Little Caesar and "Car Crash" by the Cadets.

I also like horror soundtracks like Goblin's Suspiria and Profundo Rosso.

Looking forward to my day in court.

How about some appropriately spooky instrumental work? I'd suggest "Inferno" by Keith Emerson. That'll get you sufficiently spooked!

Maybe not be the first band you’d generally think of, but it would be all kinds of wrong to put a kid in a dark room alone w/ Throbbing Gristle, Hamburger Lady.

I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart

My students requested spooky music during writing workshop this afternoon. I put on some Anglagard. One student found it frightening. One found the tempo changes comical to the point where they laughed out loud at the weird break in Skrogskranden.

And, of course, "The Final Countdown". At least it's not 'avant'.

I still am grimly fascinated by Meat Loaf's 2011 AFL performance. Scarily bad!

In all seriousness White Noise and 'The Visitation'. And the music on this brief jingle has always creeped me out...

It's not even a spoof. I could not watch that posting in the Loaf-thread. Extremely tragic.

Even John Martyn played better on dead drunk/stabbed/psychotic - and he wasn't even a superstar.
