Dude, I was waiting for a little hype! I wasn't going to buy the album in a vacuum. Thanks for the Bandcamp link, I'm heading there now!

Hi Mike. Congrats for the new album, which I've just downloaded from Bandcamp. Just a question - this doesn't come with any booklet, no recording info, no composer credits (all your compositions I assume ?), no details of which tracks the guests play on (only an issue, of course, as regards guest keyboards). It would be nice to have this ! Thanks.

Thanks, Proggosaurus. This does answer the part of my post about the guest musicians - the info on the Bandcamp page doesn't say which tracks they appear on, unlike this one.

Hi Aymeric, nice to hear from you!
All mixing done [as nearly all our other cds] at good old Louisville Recording Arts, with Howie Gano manning the controls. Recorded March 2016-July 2017.
All tunes group-written [Sary/Yoneda/Strawser/Perry], except "Ghost Zone" & "Silent Years" [plus the intro to "Golden Pheasant Of The Infinite Reach"] written by Patrick [Volare] Strawser.
As noted, Ludo Fabre: Violin on 3, 6; Karl Ledus: Sax, Flute on 3; and Nico Fabre: Additional Keyboards on 3. All are members of France's MENTAT ROUTAGE, as well members of French TV's European touring band.

Congrats Mike! You prolific little bugger you. You're making Mozart blush and look like a Viennese slacker. Any Mozart covers on this one? The Requiem? The Magic Flute? Eine kleine testiclemusik?

Maybe this wasn't seen by everyone, but Patrick Strawser from the fine Canterbury Scene-influenced band Volaré is the main keyboard-player on this new album.
And it's a adventurous one again. Wonderful! I wonder if Patrick uses his old Mellotron and Mini-Moog again.

    A reminder:

I can't wait to hear the new FTV!

    Somewhat off-topic:
On 'The Uncertainty Principle' album, the Mellotron was a (pretty dang good) sample, and the Mini-Moog was borrowed from the studio. Volaré did own & use a Micro-Moog on stage, but that's only 1/3 of what a Mini can do, so it wasn't used in the studio.
And that Pat is still a terrific keyboardist!

Thanks for this inside-information. I guess the Mellotron-sounds on #12 are samples too then, but they sound great.

Excellent work. For whatever reason I don't really care for the first track, but from then onwards it's classic French TV.
Please don't ask questions, just use google.

I feel the same. In the first track there is probably a bit too much going on. Album gets beter and better. I am also very fond of the quiet melancholic closing track.

Are you sure you guys are talking about the first track, the 2:29 quiet opener "Ghost Zone?" There's not a lot going on there but it's a perfectly nice opener (with timpani and such). Do you maybe mean the second track, the 5:37 "Noble Obelisk?" This track sounds great to me.

I actually thought I had ordered the CD and was waiting, but now I realize I was having to decide between purchasing the Bandcamp digital album or the CD, and hoping the CD would go for sale on Bandcamp so I could have my cake and eat it too.

I meant the second track. The first I see as a kind of intro.

    Yo Mikey!!

So glad to see a new disc from you out of the blue! And great score getting Mr. Strawser! What's with you and those wacky Volare guys?

Did you use any of those great song titles I sent you years ago? Anyone who doesn't use "It's Onion, Not Dog", is just wasting genius, in my opinion.

Are you ready to play Progday again? I can throw my usual 7-year tantrum until they book you to shut me up. My clout level is quite diminished these days though.

Regardless, I will be snapping up a copy of this, pronto. Still one of the great underrated US progressive bands...why, I don't know.

(PS....so, is Aaron deaf from getting onstage with Samla at Progday? Never in my wildest imaginings did I think I'd ever be able to type the sentence "I was chewed out by Coste Apetrea"...but I can!)

  24. #24
....or, off-topic, ever type the sentence "I was dunked in a pool by Thijs Van Leer for beating him at a "Hocus Pocus" vocal challenge" (the 'dockadookaleekadeekadoakaleekadeekado' section, all the way through). A proud moment

The benevolent dictator behind French TV will now speak:
Have now added physical cd purchasing options on Bandcamp site, for both #11 and the new one. Hadn't bothered previously, as I assumed people would just go to www.french-tv.net, Wayside, or various other distributors to get a copy.
Little love for the opening track "Ghost Zone"? After Pat submitted it, I thought it would indeed be more of an intro/overture for the cd, and less of an actual tune in itself. There are no plans for a similar situation for the next cd, of which we are currently knee-deep into recording.
Brian--I repeat: GIMME YOUR ADDRESS! As an honorary member in good standing of FTV, you're entitled to freebies.
Geoff--nice to hear from you! If you're looking for talent to fill out a tour or cd, you can't beat them Volare guys!
Always ready to play ProgDay--yew know me name, just look up the numbah.
Aaron is now a HS senior and currently shopping for universities that can use a middle infielder for their baseball program. The only evidence of hearing loss I can detect is when I want to borrow my car from him. I suspect your chewing out by Coste pales in comparison to the one inflicted on me by Mrs. Sary.
