White Moth Black Butterfly (ambient side project by TesseracT vocalist)

If any of you folks are fans of prog-metal band TesseracT, and enjoy the vocals that Dan Tompkins brings to the music, then you might enjoy a new release from his ambient spin-off project White Moth Black Butterfly.

I rate Tompkins as one of the better singers in the current prog-metal scene, and with this new WMBB album - Atone - I'm really impressed at the way he grows and experiments with his voice with music that is almost a world away from his metal day job.

I put Atone on the player without having heard a note beforehand, and forty minutes later I was so taken with the positive and universal vibe of the music that I ended up playing it all night, and most nights after that.

I've written up my thoughts in more detail on my latest blog review, if this has caught your interest:

I did post about Atone on the "Do you get chills from new music?" thread, when it was the album release day. Really love WMBB, Rising Sun was the first song I ever heard of theirs, and fell in love since. World Won't Sleep is definitely in my top favourite tracks by them.
At times I felt Daniel's singing is a bit odd. On specific words and notes, there is this weird kinda way he sings. Can't really explain. I can almost do the exact same thing, when I sing in a jokingly manner. Maybe thats why I think its odd, since when I'd sing/talk with that voice, it was always a joke. Definitely took me a while to get used to it, but none the less still love it.

    Hi Phil

Sorry if it looks like I hijacked your thread - I usually do a thread search out of courtesy before setting up a new one, but I wouldn't have picked up on the title of yours.

I'll also post my comments under your thread if that's ok?

    Cheers

    John

Oh no no! That isn't my thread, I just thought to say I have mentioned it here beforehand. I had no intention of putting a stop to this one, sorry about that. I was actually thinking to possibly start a thread like this one for WMBB, as I never saw them mentioned before. So I'm actually happy you started this

Just for mentioning...if you like Tompkins and the White Moth/Black Butterfly stuff...you might also like Zeta. It's another project of his, this time a collab with Chimp Spanner. It's basically a synthwave pop/electro type thing.

    A couple of tunes:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBZe-fIaVU0 (my personal fave from the album)

I like this a bit more than the White Moth; Tompkins is rock solid as usual in both, but I think the underlying music is a bit more interesting with Zeta (probably because I'm a synth nut myself ).
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

Also, Ephemeral Sun: it's a thing and we like making things that might be your thing: https://ephemeralsun.bandcamp.com
