    RIP John Abercrombie

I can't find a news report or anything, but David Torn is reporting on his Facebook page that John Abercrombie has passed away.

People have claimed on Torn's post that it might be a hoax, but he came back and said otherwise.

That is terribly sad news. I just looooooved his playing - the Gateway trio with Dave Holland and Jack De Johnette is my favourite guitar trio of all time.

Edit - well I hope that it does turn out to be a fake story.

Mediamass is a hoax site, though maybe that's your point.

Facebook and Wikipedia have not confirmed. Could still be a hoax. So far no reliable sources confirm.

So sorry to hear this. I've been listening to and collecting his work almost 40 years. What a wonderful player. I know I'll miss him.

I'd say his friend and student (dt) is a reliable source.

I could see that if we were talking of David Duke or that Duterte guy or something. Why on Earth would anyone want to 'hoax' about the passing of Abercrombie?

His family has confirmed it, unfortunately. Another huge musical loss for the world.

    Ah, crap...

My "gateway" into his playing was Kenny Wheeler's Deer Wan, and it's still a desert island recording for me. Just ordered his most recent quartet side. What a wonderful contribution to Music he made!

    RIP

RIP to an amazing guitarist with an extremely high standard and feel. That posted video is amazing, unless he is playing with a thumb pick I don't know how he gets those tones with his fingers!
