    Le Studio Burns Down

Out of use since 2008, Le Studio in Morin Heights has been burned to the ground, "suspiciously" . Studios like these became obsolete. End of an era...

That really sucks. Its a shame that someone couldn't renovate the studio into a working facility once more. There are many great recordings thanks to this once great studio.

Wasn't there some movement in recent times to get it back into working order? I remember reading an article about it not long ago but I can't remember where... how odd.

I went to visit it around 2010 or so. It was in a sad shape... I am reminded of the Sound City documentary where Dave Grohl bought the console and moved it to his private studio because these types of studios just couldn't make ends meet anymore.

Unfortunately there has been a ton of vandalism in recent years so honestly I'm not surprised. Didn't someone try to burn it another time? I hate humans!

What a coincidence! I was watching the Rush documentary DVD where Geddy and Neil talk about that studio and Neil even pointed out the spot where his drums where during those recordings. The ASIA Alpha album too was recorded at Le Studio, Quebec, and Manta Sound, Toronto, February to May 1983.

RIP Le Studio, Morin Heights, QC.

Very sad indeed. Here's what Geddy Lee had to say about it:

    And the soundclip here:

I was wondering recently why the bands that made so much money from their recordings at Le Studio did not chip in with large donations to restore the place.

There are probably other reasons but this is what i come up with.

They are probably thinking "why bother "... With the new technology and the new kind of stupid new kind of pop/rap music , big recording studios are not needed anymore.

For the history side of it , my kids for example knows all about Rush but do not listen or buy the material on their own. So fast forward one generation , Rush (for example) will still be in the music archives , but unfortunately , there will not be any hard core fans left to visit a "Le Studio" museum if there was such a thing.

This is all very sad for us old guys that grew up in the 70s and 80s . Once we're gone , the world will go on and our beloved music will slowly be forgotten.

Those tunes will not be forgotten in my house while i am still around. There are still some good music being made but for the most part, it is cheap , lazy and poor and they are the one making a good living out of it. Sad....very sad.
