    Kenny Rogers announces Farewell Concert

Kenny is apparently retiring and is having a big bash in Nashville. So far, the "All In For The Gambler" concert will feature performances by Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Little Big Town, Alison Krauss, The Flaming Lips and Idina Menzel - more to be announced. Can't say I was a huge fan - though "The Gambler" is one of those earworms - but always appreciated his early stuff he released as 'Kenny Rogers & The First Edition' - I wonder if he will touch on any of that in this show.

I remember watching the "Kenny Rogers & the First Edition" TV show that aired around '70-'71-ish...I recall that the band was VERY TIGHT...(might have been session guys in the TV band, I don't know)

I thought his last tour was a "farewell tour."

Not sure who played on that show, but their drummer Mickey Jones had been the drummer on Dylan's electric tour of the U.K. in 1966, and around that time Kin Vassy sang with the band and was later briefly in Zappa's band.

Their farewell tour was in 1982.

I went to that tour at Exhibition Stadium in Toronto. Joe Jackson was the back up (I really like him) but the audience hated him. Sorry for the derail but to Kenny.

I can't wait to not go see him again. every time he tours I don't go. Actually, I'm never aware of it when he tours. his interview with Dan Rather was a snooze. But for people who like what he does, I hope they enjoy him one last time.

Kenny Rogers played at our jazz festival last month as part of his farewell tour. According to a review in the next day's newspaper he criticized the audience at one point for its poor singalong efforts, and abruptly stopped in the middle of another song when he saw someone in the front row yawning.

Not that I know much about 'em ,but The Flaming Lips seem like an odd addition to that bill.

The Flaming Lips probably list Rogers as an influence as they do nearly everyone. And it hedges bets for the hipster dufuses just incase Rogers' cred reaches Johnny Cash proportions.
