Wally Badarou , synth specialist and producer was close to Island founder Chris Blackwell , with whom he worked quite often. He recorded among others for Mick Jagger , Talking Heads , Robert Palmer & Herbie Hancock. He released a couple of solo records, my favorite being his second : Echoes released in 1983 for Island , quite modern for his time like Zazou and Bikaye a mix of Electro and African rhythmic. 'Chief Inspector' was a minor dance hit.

Yup, Badarou's use of digital synthesis is unique and very innovative. He sounds like no-one else! There are only a few synthesists about whom that can be said -- David Helpling, John Greenland and the band Startled Insects being other good examples. Badarou's music hasn't aged at all since it was released, and still sounds fresh and iconic today. I love me some Wally.
I first got to know him through his work (production and keyboards) with Level 42 and later with Marianne Faithfull and Barry Reynolds.
