I blame Wynton, what was the question?

Both now up on bandcamp

Great news !
What about the Inner Ear Brigade ?
Damn, that Simon is an active one. Most others a need decade to produce anything even half as dense. Astonishing.

Had a listen to the Five Story Ensemble last night, on bandcamp. Good stuff! And based on the above comments I'll check out Simon Steensland.

Steensland shaping up to be my favorite album since "uncle meat." Didn't think this was possible!
Think I may prefer disc one overall of Steensland. Still a contender for one of the best records ever!
Another one where you have to go via the label's bandcamp page

Thanks. Funny, i did try and find it on there. I found the Five Story Ensemble, because I got an email from altrock. Not for the other one, though. Weird. You'd think that labels would at least allow a band to put a link to the release, on the band's regular page.

The Five Storey is a gorgeous album but all the 'rock' parts seem to have been surgically removed. This is not avant-prog anmore but a modern classical chamber album. I think I hear an electric bass in some of the tracks but apart from that it is all acoustic.
haven't heared the Steensland album yet.
Agree on 5SE, it's very Chamber, hardly any rock, I've listened to disc 1 of Steensland and it's very very good.

Heared the first Steensland disc; pretty wild, pretty awesome. The live tracks blow me away.
Both are winners. But that FSE has a special aire about it...
Please don't ask questions, just use google.

That Steensland album just might be my favorite release by him. I know that the first disc is a compilation of his first few solo albums that are out of print so the comparison isn't really fair. Still I expected to like the second disc less, since these were previously unreleased tracks (leftovers?). I just love the diversity on disc 2; there are some jazzy bits, a heavy rock tune, even an ambient track. It's all great.
Right now I would place FSE on nr 1 on my best of 2017 list and Steensland at nr 2. Indeed: both are winners.
