    Not sure if they would be your cuppa, as they are modernists. But a few names that come to mind are Harrison Birtwhistle, Michael Finnissy, Helen Grime, Thea Musgrave. Check out the NMC label. They have four inexpensive samplers featuring these British composers. http://www.prestoclassical.co.uk/l/NMC

    I'd also recommend symphonies of Czech composer Zdeněk Fibich (1850 - 1900). I recently ordered his Compete Symphonies 2CD set on Chandos.
