Nazz's debut is on my top 10 of all time list, but otoh, I just couldn't get into Utopia (even live!!!) and TR's subsequent music.
    Have you heard RA ?

    LOL !
For me it's Utopia's most accessible and melodic album. It's the only Utopia album I could get into!

Thanks for the heads up. I just listened to camples on Amazon and would buy it in a heartbeat (& still will eventually if I find one for less than $25 used somewhere)!

Awesome! Thanks! $21 for 2 albums goes down much easier!

It doesn't hurt that "Oops!" has some great stuff on it as well.

Desert Island disc for me & like some of 'Oops...' but other than that I couldn't get into anything else!

Regarding Utopia, I think there's good stuff on just about all of their albums (although some are more uneven than others). Ra and Oops! both have some of my favorite tunes from them, but I enjoy a fair bit of Oblivion and POV as well.

Rundgren is just a genius, IMO. I have all of his solo albums, and listen to them regularly.

"Singring And The Glass Guitar" is a frustrating listen for me though. It has some really cool sections, and then some that bore me to tears. Have to admire their gumption though.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think new albums were commissioned as one-offs, and Esoteric may still have rights to a lot of archive recordings.

Anyone heard White Knight yet? I listened to the first 5 or 6 songs on my morning commute. It seems more diverse than Global or State were, but on the songs I heard there was still a definite trend toward electronic music (not necessarily a bad thing, IMO).

I hated the idea of Global at first, but nearly all the songs were so infectious, and it has a lot of humor too, that I quickly came to like it a lot.

Mine should arrive tomorrow. Looking forward to it.

I saw him last night, and from what I could gather, they played quite a bit from the new one. In the context of the show, I highly enjoyed the presentation of the material. Outside of that, I'm not super excited to spend a lot of time with it at the moment.

Yeah not loving the album. Sounds like a cross between Global and Liars except with only a few good songs. I love Todd but it just sounds like an afterthought of an album to my ears. I'll give it more tries.

Some really good stuff in there, including:

    Come
    Fiction
    Beginning (Of the End)
    Tin Foil Hat <--it's Fagen
    Let's Do This <-- rocks!
    Sleep <-- instant classic
That Could Have Been Me <-- Robyn - Wow! had no idea
    Naked & Afraid <-- hehe
    Wouldn't You Like to Know
This Is Not a Drill <-- damn

Not to say the other tracks are bad, just not so much my cup of tea.
...I don't know if the things I'm thinking are normal thoughts or not.

Live clips sound good, my cd arrived today, I'll check it out during my commute to and from work tomorrow.

Interesting. I think it's stronger than Global actually. After spending some more time with the tunes here, not all of them work for me, but most of them do. Even the ones that didn't click at first are beginning to grow on me.

There are some surprising songs on it actually, given how it begins I was expecting it to all be more EDM-leaning -- but then tracks like "Let's Do This" and "Sleep" come along and mix things up. "Beginning (of the End)" is one of my favorites here, and "Chance For Us" sounds like classic Rundgren crossed with Hall and Oates (perhaps that's too easy of a description though).

I'm pleasantly surprised with this one so far.

    From a Variety interview:

The anti-Trump song you did with Fagen reminded me of when I saw you perform in Los Angeles last year, and right after you made some remarks about your feelings about Trump, the couple next to me angrily walked out. You left the impression that doesn’t bother you.

No. If I had the power, I’d say: If you’re a Trump supporter, don’t come to my show, because you won’t have a good time. And also, I don’t understand your frickin’ values. Because I’m not singing about that. If you don’t understand that basic thing, you’re just fooling yourself. I guarantee that in this show, if you’re a Trump supporter, you will likely be offended. Let the buyer beware! I mean, if you can’t take a joke, or you can’t admit that you’ve made a mistake, you don’t belong with the rest of us.

I couldn't agree more. I'm very pleased with this album because it's so all over the place stylistically. You get rock, you get R&B, you get EDM, you get ballads. I have been waiting for Todd to do a "pastiche" album again that shows off his many guises along the lines of "Wizard". The only thing I'd like to hear more of is him doing some things with strings or a small chamber orchestra. His version of "Pretending to Care" with string quartet gives me goosebumps. Definitely more satisfying for me than Global.
