Tears for Fears to tour with Hall & Oates

Lots of USA dates just been announced but no UK/Europe. Saw Hall & Oates a couple of years ago, great gig.
Would go see this double bill in a heartbeat !

It seems like an odd combination but I'm sure it will be a success regardless.

Do folks here consider TFF prog?
I'm holding out for the Wilson-mixed 5.1 super-duper walletbuster special anniversary extra adjectives edition.

Almost, and they get a pass because of their NDV history.

The tour opens in WIsconsin, but at a basketball arena with abysmal acoustics imo. Anyone else been to a music event at the Bradley Center in Milw. that disagrees?

I don't think so but a lot of prog fans(at least on here) seem to like them. Out of all the non prog bands I see mentioned on here their name seems to pop up more than most.

Not prog but very creative and with three great albums toward the end: Sowing the Seeds of Love. Elemental and Raoul and the Kings of Spain. Damn. Orzabal said he could never top RatKoS. Yep, a metaphysical impossibility.

yip, Orzabal is a great vocalist. He wudav contributed from going more adventurous. BTW, Tomcats was great too, some killer tunes there, not as good as Raoul but still very respectable.

Proggy enough for me. The first album, "Songs From The Big Chair" and "Raoul..." are brilliant. Didn't think there would be a tour of this length ever again.

Oh, I think Tomcats is great and meant to extend to that. Raoul was a pinacle, though.

Hall & Oates and Tears for Fears seems like quite a fitting pairing. 80's Pop.

And TFF were definitely influenced by progressive rock.

This pairing was set to happen in 2005. Due to certain circumstances, TFF had to cancel. I still have the routing schedule for that run that didn't happen. Tod Rundgren was then asked to tour with H&O. TFF went out on their own successful summer tour that year.

I feel he topped it with Tomcats Screaming Outside; two different beasts, but Tomcats is very special.

Will Nick be on this tour with them? I've heard of his association with them but wasn't really clear what it all involved? Is he on some of the studio albums?

I like Raoul and the Kings Of Spain a lot, but I felt it had some spotty tracks. In my opinion, some of the best material was left off of the album. When the remastered re-release was made available in 2009, I made my own version that flowed with the storyline a bit better. Yes, there is a story within the album.

Here is my version (the bonus tracks are the only ones that do not go with the flow, but I included them as they transition well into Tomcats Screaming Outside)

Nick will not be on this tour. Nick left the touring group in early 2010, once he accepted his full-time gig with Cirque. Nick did fill in for a couple of private gigs and an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! back in 2014

And they're playing in Nashville, which is just a couple hours drive from where I live! I love TFF and H&A, so this seems almost too good to be true.

It is terrible, even for an arena, though I've had better luck with some shows than others.

Most all venues are cavernous arenas. Not my cuppa.

Yep. Not to be confused with Sophistopop, which basically consists of Stereolab and later Swing Out Sister.

“songs from the big chair”, one of the finest avant-pop albums of the 1980s. the entire second half (“i believe / broken / head over heels / broken reprise / listen”) has chunks of neo prog / art rock cred. “mother’s talk” is very cool in a prog sense, too – not to mention “shout”.

always loved this one from the 90s. much respect.
