    RIP Pete Seeger

He was ninety-four. Good long run.

The word "legend" is disgustingly overused on this site.

    Not this time.

I'm very glad that through accidents of chronology, geography and the ideology of my parents, I saw The Weavers 4 times in my youth.

We know where one of the flowers has gone now. RIP Pete.

I agree with the above, but Pete died three years ago.

First thing all should know here is that David Gilmour first learned guitar from the Pete Seger How To Play Guitar record. The first chord he learned was a "D", or a XX0232 if you prefer.
Pete wrote The Byrd's Turn, Turn, Turn (To Everything There Is A Season), as well as the first folk song I ever remember learning in school, "This Land Is Your Land". He was also a major labor union activist.

The latter was Woody Guthrie, not Pete Seeger.

In other news, the weather for the super bowl here in NYC doesn't look to be that bad. Good news for Peyton Manning!

Pete Seeger was also involved in the debacle of a story relating how Solomon Linda's Mbube evolved into The Lion Sleeps Tonight, and paid a role in insuring that Linda's descendants would (after decades being shafted) finally start receiving royalties.

This is becoming a common problem in the last few years, because those idiots at Facebook keep posting death notices on the anniversaries of a given person's death. I mean, it's commendable, but then people who don't bother doing a quick Wikipedia check assume the person only just now died, and so you can get a wave of RIP posts for someone who's been dead for a decade or more, sometimes.

Terrible news. 2014 is already shaping up to be just as bad as 2016.
