Just listening to the brand new album from Reflections in Cosmo, which fits right into this category. Norwegian super-mega-hyper jazz-rock group with Kjetil Møster (Ultralyd), Hans Magnus Ryan (Motorpsycho), Ståle Storløkken (Supersilent etc etc) and Thomas Strønen (Food). It is brilliant in merging all the genres from the individual members - the skronkiness from Ultralyd, the rock of Moterphysho, the atmospherics from Supersilent and the percussive subtleties of Food.

No Youtube clips from the album it seems, but check it out.

perhaps not terribly "modern" as in 21st century... but still slays

Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

Just starting to listen to some of the clips posted. Really enjoyed EYOT, I love the Piano, and hearing it without synths or strings over the top is a bit refreshing to these ears. I also like that the guitar is not always in your face, playing some tasteful licks, but I like the melodies and structures (especially firebird). One of the reasons I enjoy Kotobel so much is the piano.

My other favorite is Electric Outlet - nice stuff, and the guitar rips in this one (ha ha, kind of opposite of why I enjoyed EYOT).

I have really been getting into instrumental (fusion and rock), and I like this band. Well put together music to these ears, I will be checking out the other clips you all have posted, but thank you all so much.

Lately for me, I have been listening to a lot of Miriodir, Brand X, and just picked up "Sir Nebula" by Tauk that I am really enjoying. I have a decent amount of instrumental music, but always looking for some new stuff.

Excellent and groovy! But, as I find with a lot of bands lately (maybe just where my head is at the moment), not digging the vocals, I'd rather they just keep it instrumental. Reminds me of some of the jam bands the way the vocals are presented. When Phish first came out (all those years ago), I really enjoyed a lot of the music, but the vocals kept me away. Dig the guitarists lead tone
    into the 7-8 minute mark.

love that 2nd piece... so, what % of their tunes are instrumental? I am in the same boat as Eric. I prefer bands not sing nowadays

welllllll... I started this thread as a compliment to the 'Modern Fusion of the more Jazz variety' because I'm not into Sax much... or solo Trumpet
so I figured *this* compliment thread would focus more on Guitar and Keyboards as lead instruments
but it's ok to post whatever you think fits bro

I won't get any plaudits for originality here, but the thread can't get much older without someone opining that One Shot were among the most outstanding C21 bands in this wheelhouse. So that person will be me
