This reminds me to put in a request. Henry said that every Yes album has previous music that wasn't used by the group. I'd be curious if he could point me to a place on his site that shows this, if written.

Yes - A remake, but by definition nothing not used since the first album.
    Drama - ?
90125 - no previously unused songs. Cinema transformed into Yes
    Big Generator - ?
Talk - no previously unused songs. 'Walls' was probably written first wit Hodgson but for a Yes album.
    The Ladder - ?
OK, it depends precisely how to define the issue and I could have worded it better. Every Yes album involves some recycling of material that had been around for a while, if not necessarily material that had been previously considered by Yes.

Yes uses Mabel Greer's Toy Shop material written and performed by MGTS, and obviously covers of other people's songs.

Drama uses ideas that were planned for the second Buggles album, and get the Rhino expanded version of Tormato for a much earlier version of "Does It Really Happen?"

90125 is based on a bunch of demos that Rabin had been shopping around for quite a while, and may also include XYZ ideas. (We know Cinema started by re-visiting and working on XYZ ideas. What is unclear is whether any made it to the final album. There's nothing identifiable from the bootlegged XYZ sessions, but that's not all the XYZ material there was.)

The bass riff in "I'm Running" dates to the Howe/Squire/White sessions before Drama.

"Walls" is recycled from the abandoned Hodgson/Rabin project.

The beginning of "New Language" was leftover from the Open Your Eyes sessions.

"Footprints" is the best Yes tune on KTA.

I am just as guilty as many others for going off topic and keeping a thread alive past its sell-by date but I feel sometimes we would benefit from creating a new thread that is wide enough to function as a catch-all for the pent-up need for us to vent/extol/pontificate.

The band Yes is very clearly a band that divides people. Perhaps we all might benefit from having a few "Yes" threads that are more broadly based so that we can all get our ya-yas out without derailing the more finely focused threads.

Because they use the same Mellotron demo tape, I think.

If only there was a way to let Geddy know that we scared off both Sherwood and Downes from Progressive Ears. That'd put the fear of God into him.

me: "not really. I like all 6 eras of Yes"

me: "That isn't what you thought last month! And remember how I disliked most of Big Generator in 2007 but last summer I thought it was quite good?"

me: "Good point. OK, shut up me. Maybe Yes does divide people."

me: "Which is what I was going to say but you typed first."

Well, no. Yes just makes music. People divide people, if they choose to divide and be divisive. I don't personally feel any need at all to throw in with one camp or the other, and sincerely wonder about people who do.

I mean, to what end, really? So, say you come up with the most unassailable defense of your opinion and you bring to an end the seemingly unending argument. You convince everyone in the world that your chosen acceptable Yes lineup is the one true lineup. What then?

I thought Geddy said he wasn't playing? Did he mean he was only playing with ARW?

I love the comment "Which Jon paid for the meet & greet?" LOL This was right before Anderson bit Davison's ear off!

Seriously though, nice to see. I'm sure most of these guys figure anything is possible and they ought to remain flexible in case there's another Union or unexpected reconfiguration.

Geddy himself never said anything about it. The RNRHOF said he wasn't playing, but that seems like a smoke screen now. ARW isn't performing tonight.

Rush management said Lee said he wasn't performing, but that appears to have been a smokescreen.

True. Both the RRHOF and Anthem both stated that he wasn't performing.
